New Hopton's Army book from Helion
« on: 27 December 2020, 08:44:04 AM »
New Laurence Spring penned volume giving Hopton's Army of the West the Old Robin's Foot treatment. Had my copy a few days now and this really is excellent. Helion have got the production  values right with this one: this volume does not suffer from the poor editing/proof reading/poor quality images that so often troubles their books.
Highly recommended

Thanks for the mini review, Radar.  In the very far future I want to do a Cornish force. Helion are hitting it out of the park at the moment imho, especially in the Century of the Soldier period. Finding it hard to resist any of them!  ;D

They are managing to churn out some good titles, I just wish that all had the production values of the Hopton volume. I'd much rather they took their time and released polished products.

Brereton was let down by poor colour reproduction (Kawasaki green and shocking pink fabrics in the C17th?); anatomically impossible artwork, out of focus photos in Waller. Montrose was the first book I have ever bought and seriously considered returning.

Helion so often shoot themselves in the foot by slapdash editing (more typos than the Grauniad) and an often absence of any evidence of an art editor. Other times they are bang on - King's Irish and this Hopton volume for example. I do so hope that they keep up the standard set with Hopton.
