Suggestions For 15mm Chinese Pirates And Japanese Wako Figures And Ships?

For Japanese Wako/Wokou, I’ve bought armed peasants from Eureka, Old Glory, etc.  I’ve also gotten hold of some Essex bowmen and naginata wielding soldiers. 

There is also a relatively new company, Mann miniatures, which seems to have a good selection of Feudal Japanese bandits, more armed peasants, and even ronin figures.  Of these many are unarmored but a few could pass for men wearing salvaged Samurai armor.

HOWEVER ...

For Chinese pirates, I’ve basically run into a dead end.  The only option would be to buy entire loads of “Manchu” and other types from various army ranges, just to get enough variants for the couple of ship crews I need.

And ships for each seem to be another dead end, except to sit down and scratchbuild my own.  I’ve already cut out some hulls from balsa and basswood for that purpose.

For ship to ship battle rules I’ve got nuthin’.

Any suggestions, on figures for the Chinese pirates, on the ships and the rules?

Not sure yet.  What did Chinese pirates of that time (1500s) actually look like?  Could the Boxer swordsmen and pole arms sets fill the role?

If you're still looking, Grumpy Miniatures do a range of Chinese Pirates for C16th. Available from Eureka (although seemingly at the moment only Aus and not Eureka UK). I had some of the Portuguese range they do years ago and as I recall they were very nice figures - true 15s I think as opposed to the more modern 15-18mm.

Fantastic!  Based on the above, I think I am going to order from Eureka some Malay and other ethnicities, to mix it up appropriately.

Chinese hordes and Japanese peasants from Museum give a nice variety of figures armed with improvised weapons and spears.  Most can be converted easily to be holding spears, swords or naginata.
