Train service during the Vietnam war
« on: January 28, 2021, 09:11:27 AM »
I am in the process of building a little railroad for my Vietnam  gaming. I know that there was a main line between Hue and Saigon but I don't know if it was used during the war or not. I presume that it would be a prime target for the VC demolition teams.
Is there any information available ? I would be interested in the type of rolling stock used in Vietnam too.

Thanks!

"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

I used to trawl charity shops for old copies of National Geographic.
Issues from the 60s could be had for 50p. I feel sure there were
articles about the railways (& other things like the plans for Hydro-
Electric power) that were during American involvement.
Others might be able to advise how to look for those articles 'on-line'.

Railways and the war in SVN:

If you are going to game with railways in SVN, you’ll want to build or source some Wickham armoured draisines. The SVN government bought a number of these from Britain who had used them in Malaya. They were used to patrol the working sections of line.

I know there's a 1/72 kit out there but in this scale you are most likely looking at a scratch build.

So thanks to you lot I got plans for the Wickham trolly . I will try and build one from scratch but for the first time , for me, I'll try it with a 3D program to generate eventually an stl file for one. Will post the progress here.
