I have ordered a number of figures for Blood & Plunder skirmish game from Firelock Games. Those are pirates, privateers, English and Spanish forces (sailors). It’s 17th century golden age of piracy in the Caribbean. If I will expand that collection, I was thinking about getting one of the Warlord Games starter armies. I am considering ‘Pike & Shotte starter battalia’ and ‘Marlborough's Wars Starter Army’. Could you advise me which one will be more fitting for my late 17th century Caribbean setting? Or maybe they both will not fit well, or maybe there is another set that will?
Also, in case of those 2 starter sets mentioned above, it says in the product description that Marlborough's Wars Starter Army can be assembled as any European force. Is the same true about Pike & Shotte Starter Battalia?

From what I know the “Pike and Shotte” starter Battalia is 30 Years War/ English Civil War so 1630s-40s. The Marlborough period is post 1700. Personally I would think the Marlborough figures more suitable albeit not ideal.

I'd suggest either Front Rank's Late 17th Century range, North Star's 1672 Range or Warfare Miniatures ranges as better matches, albeit in metal not plastic.

Front Rank especially since they are big figures and the Firelock pirates are tall. All three ranges sit midway through the 1650-1730 Golden Age and their hats and clothing more closely resemble those of the firelock games range. All 3 are also very well sculpted and you'll get more poses than from either plastic set.

The Warlord Marlburian figures do come with earlier headgear so can stretch back into the 1690's but the rank and fire poses are more suited to big battles and, you might find them a little static looking next to your pirates in skirmish games. Look for deals from resellers...I got one of the big box sets very cheaply, so if budget is important then these rather plain chaps are the ones to go for.
