(Kickstarter) Stellaris Infinite Legacy by Academy Games
« on: March 18, 2021, 07:25:45 PM »
I was a bit surprised to find out about the Stellaris board game KS by Academy Games... TT Combat had spoken of working with Paradox to bring the PC game to analog gaming and released a KS with the Dreadnought and various beasties from the PC game. Being a big Stellaris fan back when I was computer gaming I was keen to see this happen...

Now it seems Academy Games is the one bringing the game out and I am not sure what to think yet. The artwork looks good, no idea about the gameplay but the ship miniatures are underwhelming.

That said.... it is already over 2 million dollars raised!

I have no idea what this is. Apparently based on some videogame? Anyway, I was pretty put off when I received an email the night before from Academy asking for me to commit to a pledge before the campaign even went live. There was nothing but a picture. They were playing up the FOMO before this thing even started. That was dumb and further pushed me away from the general idea of KS.

I am not sure how this game might improve upon Twilight Imperium but for folks like me that spent a lot of time playing the Stellaris PC game I imagine there is a certain nostalgic aspect.

That is why I am surprised the Player spaceship miniatures do not match the ships in the PC game.

This is the TT Combat Stellatis Kickstarter we backed.

The ship and monsters we got were great but I just have not had time to put them together and paint them.

Nor have I had time for my TT Combat Dropfleet project.

With my wife and I getting more and more into Dwarven Forge and Tabletop World terrain we are thinking of putting the Stellaris items and Dropfleet stuff on to eBay.

The 'Improvement' or rather USP over TI seems to be that this is a legacy game (although one that doesn't involve destroying any components so it has replay value)and is played over a series of 2 hour long rounds rather than one huge long game, which also allow players to drop in and out of the campaign. It also has a tray system that means campaigs can be easily picked up and packed away without having to remember who had what.

Love the PC game, but not sure how it'll transfer over to a board game.

Was showing my Cousins the PC version and the sheer amount of content, even excluding DLCs is just immense to the point I realised I couldn't even properly communicate how cool it was. So I just told them you can make Death Stars and that was enough.
