Hello,

I thought I would re-fresh my thread as I've a number of painted miniatures that I can now share on the project that has been too long in the making. I won't throw them all up at once, but will add them from time to time.

My take on the period is looking to Isandlawana and Nyezane plus the actions of individuals. Concentrating on aspects of the force that appeal to me and naturally what's available from Perry Miniatures.

Peter Callan is also providing some assistance with my project which I'm humbly greatful. I will credit Peter with his work when I post them.

Leadbear Tufts are used for basing material.

I'm using David Bickley's rules for basing and gaming.

My brushwork is aimed around a Toy Soldier look so please accept my apoligise if you are looking for something else in this thread.

My first section of Imperial Mounted Infantry, dismounted and with a command base. Each section has three bases. I have another three bases to do for the second section.

Some modelling was needed and I'm applying my own artistic licence to this project. I'm using only Perry Miniatures even if that requires modelling to represent certain units or individuals.



I'm now adding my vignettes on this initial post  that were posted to a separate thread: These are a Buffalo Border Guard escaping along "Fugitive's Trail" and Signalman William Aynsley, HMS Active, servant to Lt Milne RN. Only naval representative at the Battle of iSandlwana.

Oh lovely stuff, Helen. I've got a Durnford figure somewhere (though a different one). This makes me want to paint him.

It's interesting that the rocket battery crews were something like one RA NCO and bunch of lads from the 24th. Wonder why that was so? It's almost as if they realised the bloody things were useless, and not worth wasting skilled artillerists on.

Lovely work Helen, Its great to see the whole collection so far. Its coming along very nicely.

Back in the 90s I did an Isandlwana project using Redoubt Miniatures, I've still got the figures all boxed up stashed away!

Lovely work Helen on those models. Been painting Brits and Zulus for as long as I can remember and on it continues for as long as Manufacturers and sculptors keep improving the products. Looking forward to seeing your Zulus.

Thanks Dylan. You may well know more than I do, but I'll just pen a few lines. I'm using as reference amongst other references "How Can Man Die Better" The Secrets of Isandlwana Revealed by Mike Snook. An interesting story with the rocket battery, when it was placed out of action the survivors not only did they trek back to camp, but also were among the survivors of the battle. In regards to infantry and their many uses: There was a shortage of mounted elements too hence the raising of the Imperial Mounted Arm from volunteers of the different infantry regiments. The artillery was thinly spread across the columns so again using the poor bloody infantry as extras on certain conditions. Bombardier Goff was the artillery nco. I like to think the 9pdr rocket was successful if a well skilled crew operated it. Why have the weapon system at all if there was no merit for its use.

Thanks Mike. I'm also enjoying the modelling side using Perry Miniatures to represent other units on the Imperial side.
