An article about SOLO wargaming
« on: March 30, 2021, 02:47:34 PM »
This is an article I made some time ago about solo wargaming with miniatures.

It covers several aspects on this particular way of gaming:

Why people play alone?
Which mechanisms are used to play a wargame alone?
A long list of wargames designed to be played solo.

I hope you like it, and don't hesitate to ask any question or give any recommendation. Feedback is always appreciated.

Solo wargaming is becoming really popular.

I started 5 years ago when my first kid was born, and there is a lot of people in that same situation.
Nevertheless, Covid has forced many people into solo wargaming.

That's the point of this article, to help people that are starting to play solo.

Thank you; that was an interesting read.

Especially with the many and diverse lock-downs all over the world, I imagine solo play has never been more popular.

I must admit that I'm in this hobby mostly for the modeling and painting; the gaming aspect is mostly the justification for my antics, although I do enjoy the occasional game (in fact, my regular opponent and me used to have a weekly miniature game previously).

So solo play has never been on my radar much. But recently, I've come to realize that I do sort of miss those weekly games every now and then, so for the first time, solo gaming options are looking more appealing to me.

I especially like your argument that we think nothing of gaming on the PC or console alone, but solo miniature gaming has an atmosphere of a bit of awkwardness to it (well, at least in my case; YMMV). And now I've come to think; why not? I mean; we have all those nice tables, terrain pieces and miniatures, so why not use them for their intended purpose, right?

That Blood in Space rules set looks especially appealing btw...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Some time ago, a friend told me that he didn't understand how I could be two hours playing with miniatures solo. And this same friends is the kind of person that spends four hours playing Playstation games...

For me is quite awkward that he thinks it is normal to play computer games for hours solo but is strange that I play wargames solo.

Wargames have a social component, that's true, but can be a really entertaining hobby going solo.
