Painted Sci Fi adventurer: old Traveller figure
« on: 08 September 2009, 10:21:14 AM »

Here's a little 15mm Traveller figure I painted at the weekend. I kept the colour scheme simple and tried for a washed out weathered look. It's a scale and genre I'm becoming more interested in at the moment.

cheers

I remember those old 15mm Traveller figures. I had one of the boxed sets many years ago.

He looks really good, I like th colour scheme, Yellow works really well along with the white padding. :)

Nice job, blackstone :)  But I've always had a soft spot for 15mm figures!

Is it the sci-fi wargame or the Traveller RPG specifically, that is drawing you in?

It's the figures :) I can understand your soft spot for 15's. After 20+ years of collecting 25/28's 15mm is a recent revelation for me.

This is the only old traveller figure I have left. I painted this guy as a generic space type. He was a bit of an experiment, I've only painted around 4 figures at this scale so still learning. I'm trying to get a collection of individually based 15mm's for games like Beamstrike, FWC, Fast and Dirty etc. Next up is a squad of Garn mercenaries and loads of xenomorphs then probably some old laserburn figures when I next get a chance to paint.

cheers

That paintjob looks great, and those are neat old figures. I've got eight or so of them, aquired in a batch of misc. 15mm figures several years ago. Mine are in camo and serve as an assault squad - no stripes on their armour!

15mm SF was one of my first wargaming interests, about ten years back when there wasn't the great and wonderful diversity of 15mm SF that we enjoy now. There's most of an NAC mech infantry company + supports somewhere in my storage boxes, as well as re-enforced platoons of other factions. Must try and get my gaming group back into 15mm SF at some point, although one of them's had a bad outbreak of children & domestication that has reduced his gaming time to nil.

Children aren't an excuse for a serious gamer, Wirelizard.  Mine got to bed much earlier than me! :)

The only forces I've finished are one mechanised platoon each of NSL and NAC. I've played some Beamstrike and some Fast and Dirty with them, but not tried FWC.  Trying to get my gaming group to try some 15mm sci-fi, too, sounds like a good idea!

I'm a new member of a great gaming club near me and last week a chap called Ian ran through a game of Beamstrike with me and a couple of others. He brought all the figures for the game and I was amazed at the quality of the old Laserburn figures he was using. To be honest they look poor on the AA website but up close they look great considering the age of the sculpts. I believe some of them (or all of them?) were sculpted by Bryan Ansell. Lovely poses on the figures.

Wizelizard, Keeper any chance of some pics of those figures you've painted?

No problem, blackstone.  In fact, checking in my picture folder on Cheddarmongers, I'd completely forgotten I've done some grey aliens as well as some red redemptionists.  I don't have any pics of my NSL platoon, though.  If you want better pics of any of these, let me know, and I'll take some better ones!

These pics are all a bit than they look, so click on them to get a slightly better image.

Grey Aliens:

Red Redeptionists:

NAC Mechanised Platoon (I think I posted these somewhere else on this forum, recently, but I can't remember where!):

Great stuff, nice painting... those greys are nuts btw :)

The Red Redemptionist figures are some of the ones I was talking about, from the game of Beamstrike last week. Really nice, the guy with the power axe stood out to me. I haven't bought any GZG stuff yet... but only because I'm trying to paint what I have before getting anymore :) They always look really nice in pictures... I'm aiming to get something like the bottom picture i.e. a range of squads, some power armour and some vehicles.

cheers

All the 15mm SF pictures I have (some from 10 years ago!  :o ) are here:

http://www.warbard.ca/sg2gallery.html
http://www.warbard.ca/sg2gallery3.html

Note that Gallery 3 is mostly 25mm stuff, but there's a couple of pictures of the very nice UNSC 15mm from GZG.

I've got a platoons worth of grav IFVs & some supporting arms for the UNSC that I've never photographed.

Upgrading warbard.ca was going to be this summer's web project, but Real Life somehow got in the way, and this fall promises to be... interesting. And not in the good "lots of time for rebuilding big websites" way. Meh.

Cheers Wirelizard I've visitied your site many, many times over the past months. I wish those hardsuited traveller figures from the first gallery were still available, so nice.

Dug up some of my old Martian Metals...

We used these for the original Traveler RPG.  We would enlarge ship plans from the books and play out combat on them.
