Wargames Atlantic thureophoroi!
« on: 06 May 2021, 05:06:09 AM »
No idea how close to realization these are, but Wargames Atlantic have announced they'll be releasing a box of plastic thureophoroi  :o

I love how versatile the box of Persians they put out is, so I'm hoping this will be similar, but for the Hellenistic kingdoms in the audience!

Those look very promising! Kind of an overdue set, considering how widespread thureophoroi were in later Hellenic armies. Of course the pikemen get all the attention!

A very useful addition, both for what they actually are and as a core set for kit bashing so many other figures and troop types.

As Pattus says long overdue but I wouldn't hold my breath - WA will get round to it, but it might be a while.

Excellent.

The good news is that they are still in the Z-sculpt process and are taking suggestions to make the set more useful. I fully expect these to be on my work desk and made into all kinds of Hellenistic troops. From thureophoroi (which I probably already have a lifetime supply myself in metal) to peltast/euzonoi or elephant escorts, to elephant crews and war machine crewmen these will be very useful. Plus they are hinting a second set of thorakites will be available someday, which will probably allow them even more head and helmet styles. The good news is Wargames Atlantic has given the me the impetus to update the Thureophoroi links- since they pointed people to it, and seeing it made me realize how seriously out of date it is!

Great news about the thureophoroi .  It's surprising it's taken so long to get a plastic set from anyone.  I'll be getting these ASAP.   Hopefully they'll come out w the Scythians.  Then I can save on postage :)

Wargames Atlantic are a (the?) distributors for the RDQ games Fauns and Centaurs, so presumably they’ll also distribute the Skythian set RDG had a Kickstarter for. WA themselves don’t have Skythians in the pipeline, as far as I know.

The Wargames Atlantic webpage provided a link to my thureophoroi page. It had a bunch of broken links- which I have hopefully have fixed. I took the opportunity to update some images and add new links. One of the projects in progress is a group of Relic thorakites. Hopefully I will get them done, some century before WA comes out with plastic one! In any event, here is the link for reference, which was a bit buried on the title page for decades.
