Some great (but rather short) live-action battle scenes:

If only Hollywood could do a sci-fi war movie...like James Cameron did with "Aliens" ;)

I agree with you there. There hasn't been a good military sci-fi flick out since. IMHO.

You both need to search out the three part Halo 3 live action shorts on youtube if you haven't already, then weep anew at the fact that the Halo film was canned and watch District 9 to see how amazing the director that was going to work with Peter Jackson on the project 'does' sci-fi.

Now water can flow....or water can crash...be water my friend.

Yes, those Halo3 short movies are great and one can see much of his "directing style" that went into District 9. Speaking of each, the original short movie (Alive In Joburg) has some nice combat scenes, specially the first one (SWAT? against alien in mech, if i remember correctly).

I had some hopes for Avatar, but it seems to be the "old"  love story wrapped in some sci-fi trappings, with lots of eye candy and not much more :\

Oh, that is beautiful. How well visual effects have gotten. And Peter Jackson's style is amazing I think. As for those Halo 3 videos, if you have access to the xbox live market place you can download the whole short movie for free. Much better visual quality than youtube.

Errrg, I know what you mean. And it is pathetic. We desperately need another film.
