WOW! Great stuff - what a vehicle park - busy or what?

That is just Flatpack's (well part of it)vehicle park.
If you add in those belonging to the others you
start getting a Back of Beyond traffic jam.  lol lol lol

So for tomorrows game, where we will be trying out
the Beyond the Empire rules, we will be limiting figures
& vehicles to just donations from Flatpack and Dicemaster.
It will still look great though. Look out for the pictures. :P

Game 3 - Engagement at Fort Adeenuff.

We got a game in last weekend. Back of Beyond, but not using FFOL BB, but new ‘Beyond the Empire’ rules.

A British punitive force has been ambushed by two local tribes, but help is on its way.

The battlefield, before a dice was rolled.

Initial British forces deploy, only to be surrounded immediately.

The two local tribes easily enter the battlefield, trying to eliminate the British force.
Cavalry deploys.

Foot troops easily cross the river. Oh heck.

Not to worry, here comes the British support.
Armoured cars and a naval unit FINALLY enter the table. they had slight issues rolling the right number on the dice to get on.

Things weren’t going well for the cut off British units, so a general retreat was called.

One British unit stayed to fight, but was cut down.

Things were definitely not going well for the British troops, so they called up their final trump card...AIR SUPPORT.

This helped scatter a unit of one of the tribes, but that was it. The aircraft was then forced to return to base.

So how were the British support getting on ?
Well their commander was a little confused.
He didn’t know which unit to move or fire next.
Two many units leaves you this way.....

General view of the ongoing battle.

So the local tribes took the day.

Enjoyable game with the chaps.
Not to sure about the new rules, but that was the first time we had played them.

Ouch the Imperial forces got rather spanked.  lol Great looking table sorry I missed it.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Adding my tuppence worth.
First up, I was the Umpire & owner of the only copy
of the rules that we had. The nice people at Caliver
(publishers of 'Beyond the Empire') are now selling
a support pack, which contains QRS, Event/random
cards & even rules for a Solo game version.
So, any cock ups/mis-interpretation or omission
of the rules is totally my fault.
Now some pictures.
752 = Afghans infantry advancing
753 = Being classed as 'Fleet Footed' meant they were not
          greatly hampered by the River.
754 = From amongst the ranks of the British ambushed
force could be heard,  'Steady Men!' from the Officer,
Col. James (Jimmy to his men) Hill [flatpack is a
          Coventry City FC supporter]
755 = Hordes of Afghan cavalry swarm out of the hills.
They were classed as 'Born in the saddle' so had no
           problems with the rough terrain.
756 = As an aside.   Nice building Bob.
757 & 773 = The reason for the British Punitive Expedition
had been an out-break of Banditry from the
occupants of the Tower (another nice bit of
building from Bob) who had been 'taxing' for
the use of 'their' bridge. Only when the game
was OVER did anybody ask about their affiliation.
They were happy to threaten the odd traveller,
but would steer clear of people with guns, unless
                     attacked themselves.

The scenario was...
British force (Flatpack) is on said punitive expedition,
when they are ambushed by two tribes of Afghans,
(Westbury & Dice-Master). A relief force, led by the
Navy (JC) is coming down the road.
Well that WAS what was supposed to happen.
'No plan survives contact with the enemy' I would add,
'No scenario survives contact with a group of Wargamers' lol

758 = Heroic stand of the Mountain Gun. Attacked by the
enemy, well that was to be expected, shot at my
their own side?!? :o & abandoned by their own
officer, :-[. It almost seemed to be a relief when they
          were wiped out.
759+760+761 = When Col James Hill strategically withdrew,
saved half his command, abandoned the
other half, well he just ran for it.
The remainder tried to make a stand, but
outnumbered they broke & were cut down.
762+765 = The relief force was stalled by... a stalled A-car.
Their commander Lt. Benjamin Bowe (JC) ['Admiral'
to his men] had to turn traffic cop & finally managed
to get a car with a MG onto the table, placing it
on the far side of the bridge, to deny it to the enemy.
763,4, = More Afghans pour out of the hills (Dice-master)

As chaos ensues on the Imperial side, the relief force
commander (JC) finds himself (literally) wearing two hats.

667/8  The much vaunted Air support finally arrives,
only to fall foul of a well placed Afghan random
event card & have to limp home. It did manage
to unleash its 'Terror Weapon' (Two hand hurled
bombs). No casualties were caused, but the horses
of an Afghan unit did flee in panic.
669      The MG car manages to scare off an Afghan cavalry
unit, but there was nothing to chase them with.
670/1   The 'Hand of God' scares the DH2 pilot & he heads
             for home.
672      FINALLY the relief force gets its A-cars onto the table.
Trouble is that the troops they were to save are either
            fled or dead.
674      The Afghans are triumphant.

Overview.
First it was great fun. Players said they enjoyed it,
not so sure I could get them to play the rules again
though. As it was our first game, & I was the only
one to have even read the rules, I thought it went
quite well. several more reading sessions would
help improve the playing, as would some QRSs
& random cards not hand written by me. These
are on their way, as is the Solo version. :D

Some of the most enjoyable moments:-
1)The Roles Royce (Armoured tip of the spear),
& on the narrow road to gain the move bonus...
failed time & again to get moving. This caused
an enormous traffic jam. Troops that should have
sped down the road in trucks, guarded by A-cars,
had to debus and march through woods.
2)The ambushed Brits formed up & played the
'Three rounds rapid' card which gives them
effectively a double move of firing...
only to fail their firing test. :o
Much to the relief of Ian (Westbury) whose
figure was with the target unit.
3) VCs all round to the crew of the Mountain Gun.
     Posthumous obviously.
4) Afghan leader (Dice-Master) while separated from
any covering unit becomes victim to the British
playing their 'Sniper' card (Bit unfair as the figure
was brought along as part of his troops) He then
uses his own trait, that of being 'Lucky' to demand
the multiple hits be re-rolled.  All then fail. :o
Any wonder we call him Dice-master.
5)  Ambushed officer leading the great skedaddle.
Lost half his force, a field gun & the precious DH2
had to limp home.  Explain that one at your Courts
     Martial.
6)  JC (relief force) was reduced to clambering onto
the lead A-car to direct it forward, only to be attacked
by a large Afghan unit who had managed to get a
double move. First move furious fighting around & even
on the Roles Royce. JC manfully firing his trusty Webley
revolver into the mob while swearing like only a sailor
that's been to Portsmouth can. Helped by the A-car's
MG  spewing hot lead & death with gay abandon.
The courage tests at the end of 'Move 1' had the Brits
standing firm, as it should be, while the Afghans were
forced to retire half a move. 'I've still got my second move'
claimed the elated Ian (Westbury) 'AND...the MG is out of
ammo!'  What could possibly go wrong for the Afghans?
Well dear reader, they failed their test to charge. lol

As I said I quite enjoyed the game & would play it again, at
least under the aforementioned conditions. Others will, hopefully
give you their own viewpoint.

Once again the invading imperialists were sent packing by the brave tribesmen defending their homeland  :D
Not so sure about the rules, the level of randomness and some quite silly results dampened my enthusiasm a bit but we most definitely had a good laugh  lol
Anyway here are some random pics  :)

Excellent looking game that sounds to have held many surprises for both sides. I think that there will be pointed questions in Parliment  lol

Great looking game….though at first I was puzzled as to why this tribal sniper was using his two wives as cover? Lol

Must get eyes tested…..
