ERM Closed!
« on: May 31, 2021, 08:56:45 PM »
ERM, makers of Platoon 20 figures (plus others), have put the following on their website:

'17/5/21 - It's time for me to retire. Ranges of miniatures and related equipment will be up for sale shortly.'

Tony's a top guy who, from the sound of it, has been through a horrible time.  Wish him well for his retirement.

Seems to be a few companies closing their doors lately. Happy for those who are retiring, But I worry that the legacy of the pandemic might be a mass extinction of small miniature producers.

Many of these small companies now experience diminished sales due to lack of wargaming shows and Brexit VAT etc. issues where their products have suddenly become 25% more pricey to EU customers without any benefit to the company. In addition the price of pewter is going up, and some of their customers are turning to 3D printing as a way of getting less-expensive wargaming models.

I hadn't realised that his wife had passed away recently - he has always been a great person to deal with.

Yes the price of pewter has become very concerning for anyone who wants lead free low melt metals. I've been using second hand recycled pewter for making my pin badges as the price of fresh stuff is was pushing £50 a KG when you added VAT and postage into the mix.

Certainly resin 3d printing has produced a new breed of mini producers, which is great - But I have terrible visions of oldschool mini sculpting being added to the endangered crafts list! lol

I wish Tony all the best, I hope somebody picks up the range as they make up quite a lot of my modern collection.

Cheers
