There is a flag on the Adolpho Ramos site called  "Ordenes Militares Regiment 1814. Line Infantry".

"Ordenes" literally translates as "Orders". So presumably, "Military Orders Regiment".

Is this a generic military pattern flag issued to the later regiments (rather than them having regional arms flags) or is it some kind of 'staff level' unit'?

He also does a "Royal Artillery" flag, which I doubt there is much call for so I guess it could be something pretty prosaic.

Silly question, but I can't find anything about it other than it could be Regt. 37 but, I thought numbers only went to 35 during the Napoleonic wars.

As with all things Napoleonic and Spanish, totally confused, totally stumped. ??? ::)

Partridge & Oliver's "Battle Studies in the Peninsula" lists the 2nd and 3rd battalions of the Ordenes Militares regiment as being present at Bailen. One served under Venegas, the other under Coupigny. Not what you asked, but that's all that I have.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

The name is an honorific one  alluding to the four spanish military orders of Santiago, Alcantara, Calatrava y Montesa. Something like the Lord Grand Prior's regiment of english history or like the Hoch und Deutchmaister of the Austro-Hungarians. Was a regular spanish unit until its dissolution in 1985.

Now, that makes perfect sense. One of my other periods is the Crusades and the Order of Santiago is familiar to me. Should have realised, doh.

Thanks, that clears that up.

As has been said, it was just a regimental title.  The Russians also had a 'Military Orders' Cuirassier Regiment.
