X-wing scale Imperial installation
« on: 22 July 2021, 02:27:48 PM »
Just a quick commission for the Mad Lord himself  :)

The Tie is an official one and my first ‘X-wing’ miniature. Probably the last as they’re too damn expensive  lol

Nice work on the buildings.

"Used" TIE fighters from X-Wing go for around $10 on ebay, less if they're missing some of the cardboard crap or are in a bundle with other stuff.  I've bought ones as low as $3 (at which point the shipping cost more than the auction) myself, but that was back when people were dropping out hard at the start of 2nd edition.  You just have to shop around and look for bargains, the game's got (or at least had) a big enough fan base that there's a steady churn of listings.

Ooo…I like that!

That’s the kind of idea that would get me back into X Wing.  I have quite a few of the models and never play it!

Very nice scenic fella.

Splendid.  8)

I'd say "now lets see it in 28mm" but you've probably already started on it....

Now that's sweeet!! 8)

I was always sort of against playing X-Wing on anything but a starfield, but it's been a while since I've played X-Wing, and I've become a lot less strict in my standards.

Playing on a forest table with an installation like this would be awesome. The only gripe I have with that idea is that a forest mat could certainly work, but then having full 3D terrain on top of that ruins the illusion.

And making a full 3D table in the right scale would be awesome too, but then you have the issue of not being able to securely place your models on top of it  :?

I have the same issue with Dropfleet Commander by the way; takes place in low orbit, so why have objectives be anything but flat templates? City buildings sticking out like that would be just silly (and get in the way of play too)...

Anyway; enough of that ranty drivel  :D

I take it these buildings will go with a nice table and alternative rules then?  ;)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks chaps  :)

Well, only the drawing part  lol

No idea as it's already on it's way to Mad Lord Snapcase.

I would like to give a ground based x-wing game a go though. But on a nice table with alternate rules  lol

If I'm honest, I don't really like the x-wing rules. Too 'tournamenty', Starfighters has what I need  :D

So old Snapcase is dipping his toe into the deep of outer space at last... I wonder what we will see on his kitchen table in the future now that he is provided with such sweet goodness of your work! Very well done, I would love to do something like that.  :D

Now, that would be something!

It looks really lovely.  :-*   :-*   :-*

Absolutely superb work, James. Many thanks. I can't wait for it to arrive at Snapcase Hall!

My three granddaughters (plus thankfully, their parents!) arrive for a week on Monday. We've not been able to see them since 2019 due to Covid. I'm seeing the youngest granddaughter for the first time next week as she was born during lock-down. My oldest granddaughter (7yo) is a big Star Wars fan and this is part of the table set-up for a surprise game for her. It's called 'Mission to Endor' and was inspired by the Beasts of War game. X-Wing on Endor/

I wanted to do a low-level attack game where the X-Wings etc. have to fly between the trees rather than over them (I hope I have enough trees!). The objective for the Rebel player (my granddaughter and her Dad) will be to destroy the power generator set up by the Imperial forces (myself as Darth Grampie and my daughter as Howlrunner). I will be using the FfoL rules 'Starfighters!', already purchased from OSHIROmodels.

I will post an AAR here next week when the game is over.

Here is a picture of the Beasts of War game which inspired me:
