Looking for information on the German "Knights Revolt"
« on: July 31, 2021, 12:28:49 AM »
I am looking for information about the German Knights Revolt of 1522-23.
Books, webpages and or documentaries. I found out about it while browser post about the Peasants war, and found out it's finally act. Took place in my old stomping grounds of Landstuhl.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

I'm sure there's an Osprey Man at Arms book that covers the Peasants Revolt. In fact I think I have it but much of my old stuff is in boxes and it would be very difficult to i/find and ii/ dig out.

Have you checked the Osprey site?

If you can make out German text, these people have several books on this sort of period: https://www.zinnfigur.com/en/Books-Media/Zeughaus-Verlag/Armies-and-Weapons/

I bought  The German Peasants' War: A History in Documents, many years ago. As the title implies , its a collection of contemporary accounts. Its mostly focussed on the social and political  causes of the war but there a section in the tactics,

I have yet to read it so can't comment on how useful it may be .    google books has it

Thanks! I'll check out Zeughaus-Verlag/Armies-and-Weapons/ series. I have seen a few in English So time to see if they make the Peasants war ones in English as well.
And thank you doombeard, that book also look interesting.

Not certain but I believe Fred and Liliane Funken also have a book on the armour usedand outfits. And perhaps this which seems to be the most recent of Wikipedia's sources. From 1985, Hitchcock, William Robertson (1958). The Background of the Knight's Revolt, 1522-1523.
