V - The Visitors (1980s)
« on: August 21, 2021, 02:32:43 AM »
Good Evening all,

So once again I was caught in a genre quandary.   Post this here as the 1980s TV movies were technically set in modern times, turning into an alien-invasion post apocalypse, or post this in the straight sci-fi board with all the star trek and 40k stuff because aliens.   So I flipped a coin and landed here.

Anyhow,  "V" was a two set miniseries and hourly TV show back in the 80s that featured earth getting taken over by some alien fascists bent on stripping the earth of it's water and turning humans into [spoiler deleted].    Strong colors and clean straight lines for the space not-c's with their logo vaguely reminiscent of something from the German regime from the 1930s.

So here are the pics.   Since I don't want to give an impression that I'm posting these to sell you something, I will deliberately NOT be posting the manufacturer/retailer of the minis, in spite of them being totally awesome. Plus I'm a stubborn 'ol cuss, so there!  Good luck lookin'!   The spaceship isn't exactly cinematically accurate, but it was good enuf/close enuf.  Enjoy!

I enjoyed the show in my youth. The nostalgia is strong in this post, great work!

Remember really liking that show. I also watched the remake that was 10-15 years ago? Can't remember now.
Great figures!

Lovely.
This series freaked me out as a kid and I remember vary little of it.
The most I know about it comes from me picking up some of the very short marvel comics.

Models catch that vibe briljantly too though.

Nice work.

Surprisingly, I do not have these figures, though having seen yours painted up they may make an appearance in my Stargrave unpainted miniatures pile (currently visible only from near orbit).

The shuttle looks good (for some reason it reminds me of GZG).

I think it is GCG. I have the not Visitors on my to get list, then I need to source some armed 80's civilians in 28mm - aside from the EM4/Copplestone bikers and mercs.

This is the shuttle, isn't it: http://www.daemonscape.com/contents/en-uk/p98.html

I haven't seen the remake but loved the original series.
Looking forward to seeing more of your V project!

Yes, that's the right one.   If anyone who knows the source of the actual minis would like to post it on this board, please feel free because I'm not able to do so.   Thanks.

To me the new one felt like CIS-Visitors, the original mini series and then the 19? odd episode series were brilliant

I just remember being allowed to stay up and watch this after watching Daley Thompson in the LA Olympics...

Wasn't there a hint in the original series that the Visitors had another enemy race that was more of a peer for them technologically out in space? I remember the human resistance using a radio array to beam a message into space asking these other aliens for help. I recall even at the age of 8 thinking this might be unwise! Not to mention it would probably take hundreds of years for the message to get anywhere.

Be that as it may I don't think those other aliens were ever in the show? Although I haven't seen the remake/sequels.

So a blank slate to bring in another faction if wanted!

Thingverse has a 28mm STL file.  Did a test run on the cockpit section and it works.

I don't think they ever appeared, but I do recall an episode where the Visitors had a prison compound surrounded by sand, full of what were basically sand sharks
