UVS: Oathmark Odyssey - Living Statue number two 15/10/2023
« on: 30 August 2021, 11:31:35 AM »
So there I was, watching the snow falling in lockdown 3.1 (31/01/2021), and I looked at the Oathmark/Frostgrave figures I had assembled (and occasionally painted) and thought “I need to get away from all this snow and cold”.

I can blame Joe McCullogh for the initial idea, aided and abetted by the purchase of three boxes of Immortal Miniatures Greeks at Salute over ten years ago.

This was probably not the first box I bought, but the price tag makes me smile.

So I began assembling the figures, and working out how to build an Oathmark army.

I also had a look through the various figures for some mythical and magical figures to move them away from one bunch of hoplites hitting another group of hoplites.

The on going build story is here: https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/search/label/Oathmark%20Odyssey

Though I have a number (not enough) of hoplites assembled, I ran out of Humbrol liquid poly. Now even the greats use it to smooth off plastic figures (Tamiya thin liquid poly will glue plastic figures nicely but it is a bit vicious for tweaking edges).

So nothing painted yet, but I have completed a North Star Gorgon.

That bow looks a bit lumpy.

Now to work out some stats for Oathmark.

The town was about a dozen small houses clustered around a square with a shiny bronze statue on a plinth in the middle.

We had been spotted, as we could see figures rushing around. The women and children were being directed to the most impressive building while the menfolk were collecting weapons and shields.

The men began forming ranks, but we could see we outnumbered them at least five times.

Behind the ranks, I could just make out some priest or similar making offers to the statue. As I turned to the soldier next to me to say this should be easy, there was a sound like a god's sword sliding over another god's shield and his eyes turned wide.

Looking back, the statue began to step down from the plinth, its sword and shield at the ready.

A Living Statue for Oathmark. A Crooked Dice Titan with the Titan weapons upgrade.

Thanks all.

Though I have a number of the Immortal Miniatures assembled:

I have not actually painted any of them.

However, I have assembled and painted one figure from another faction.

Wargames Atlantic Ancient Persian with spear.

Only the third painted post this year (and the sixth painted item this year).

This is a Scotia Grendel Ruined Greek temple.

Oathmark Human for scale.

That looks like a good, practical piece for gaming - sets the scene but it isn’t so big that it would interfere with moving figures and game play. I like the colours you used.

Thanks.

I liked the model so much, I bought a second one at SELWG 2023 today. That will be "Standing by" for some Manta-5 action!

This thread has not been forgotten.

This was assembled at the same time as the other figure, it even got a base coat. It just never got finished, until now.

Standing upright, it dominates the battlefield (until I finish its big brother).

Here are the two completed ones together.

And in case you had forgotten, they are two Crooked Dice Titans with the optional melee weapon upgrades.
