Question on Perry British Foot Artillery 1808-14
« on: September 12, 2021, 08:41:14 PM »
I've been working on a couple of packs of the above, and have suddenly realised that the guns are on double trail carriages [like the French] instead of the single trail I might have expected.  Not very quick witted of me.
So on the basis the Perrys must be right.. what am I missing?  Is this an older pattern still in use pre-Waterloo?

What size cannon did you buy?  From what I remember, 6 & 9 pounders had the single trail and howitzer, 12 & 18 pounders had the double.

Hmm... I think the were double during most of tge 1700s and then switched to single.  At least the following article indicates it.

Thank you,I think I may have answered my own question, having found some very erudite topics on TMP for example

In short, yes, you can have bracket trail 6 pdr carriages for the Foot Artillery in the Peninsula.
It looks like there's been a lot of research and pondering on this point for decades.

You certainly go down some unlooked for pathways in this hobby.
