Auldearn 1645 - The Game
« on: 26 September 2021, 10:28:05 PM »
My latest blog post covers the Auldearn 1645 game that The Friends of General Haig played at Warlord Game's Open Day. A hard fought game which went down to the last turn of the day. More pictures, and to see the result, visit: https://theviaregia.blogspot.com/2021/09/auldearn-1645-game.html

I took these photos from Doocot Hill nearly 20 years ago.  First photo shows the village with the Covenanters Inn.
Obviously the modern road was not there but it gives you a good image of the rolling terrain.  View left to right.
Hope it's of interest.  Dave

An interesting report Andy, and good to play on purpose built boards!

Love the bit about not giving your troops too many special abilities, as you tend to forget them during the course of the game - sounds horribly familiar lol

@Dvdstr - fabulous pictures. I’ve sadly not visited Auldearn (yet!) but your pictures are fabulous.  Great to see the terrain.  Thanks for posting 👍

@Has.been - glad you enjoyed it 😀. It was a fun game.

@Captain Blood - fabulous to have the boards available, as you say.  With special rules, I seem to fall in to the trap often.  When I study a battle, and there are details about what different units did on the day, I find it so tempting to try and bring all of that colour in to the game rules. Usually too much detail.  Definitely a case where less can be more 😀.
