1st Carlist War
« on: October 15, 2021, 02:31:43 PM »
I am looking at the above as a new  project. Perry Miniatures published what I understand is an extremely useful book as a wargaming information source so time ago, but I have been unable to locate a copy anywhere particularly 2nd hand.

I know it is a long shot, but does any member know anyone who has a copy of the book that they no longer want?

Chad, I can't help you on this book but I presume you have located the Osprey Men-at-Arms book on the same subject by Gabriele Esposito.  Less than 50 pages but has the usual plates and can be bought for £7.99 from Amazon. I don't have a copy buy the combo of Esposito as author and Rave as illustrator is normally pretty good.

If you want to have a new, slightly off-beat project using Perry figures maybe "War of the Triple Alliance" may be an alternative. I saw the Perrys running a demo game to at Partizan show in UK last weekend and it was simply stunning.  I was highly tempted but then remembered I have my "Vendee Rebellion" project to complete!

Could you not email Perry miniatures about it? They might be able to help.
I have nothing important to say so just keep on scrolling.

That would be the Conrad Cairns book, very limited and very much sought after these days. Frustratingly the prices when one does come up for sale are as much or more than you will pay for the armies to game the war :-[

There is a lot of interesting (and free) information in the latter part of W.Walton's book on the Spanish Revolutions which was written while the 1st Carlist War was still ongoing.

The previously mentioned Osprey is also a useful lite resource. As is Brett's book on the British Legion.

I just saw a copy of it at Barrage last month for $35, which seemed like a decent price.  I have a copy and it is invaluable to doing this period.

Here are some pictures of mine:

Chad, you will find lots of information and pic's on this blog.  The author is well informed and a very good painter.

It was useful to me when I first got into the First Carlist War.
