28mm terrain pieces
« on: 17 October 2021, 07:16:29 PM »
Hi folks

I've been working on a couple of terrain pieces over the last several weeks for using in games of Iron Cross. I have a couple more pieces in mind, which, when combined together will represent a previously fought over battlefield. I also have a number of the German casualty figures that my pals at Great Escape Games produce.

I thought they were just a little bit different to terrain that we normally place on the gaming table, but will block line of sight, act as cover etc. The first one is an ambushed supply wagon:

The first piece I created was a burnt out Panzer III:

I think that next piece will be a damaged Kubelwagen with the obligatory casualties scattered around.

Has anyone got any other ideas for battlefield-debris-as-terrain? I'm looking for some more ideas.

That panzer is stunning!

Amazing work on the burnt out hull, it's just like the real thing.

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

They look brilliant Parttimegamer. I had a flick through your blog and have ordered a test roll of hedgehog gutter brush to do my eastern front trees so thank you for that (I was about to use a drill and wire and make just that). For ideas, just off the top of my head:

# A destroyed strongpoint - cratered bunkers or trenches, maybe an armoured vehicle dead on it with trampled and incomplete barbed wire.

# the classic line of destroyed Hanomag half tracks or trucks.

I’ll have a think and try and come up with some more/better ideas.

Excellent terrain pieces. The work on the burnt out tank is really impressive.

These are great, particularly like the ground work, really looks the part.

For other ideas; how about a crashed aircraft, could do it in a series of sepparate pieces. Wing piece smacked into a tree or stuck in a damaged hedge, bits of fuselage around an impact crater, ripped off landing gear etc. You could do several smaller pieces of scatter terrain that can be spread across the board..

Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys.

I think that modelling a crashed aircraft might be beyond me, but a burnt out Opel Blitz or a Hanomag should join the ambushed column.  ;)
