Painting Rope
« on: October 21, 2021, 11:17:58 PM »
I seem to be running into a lot of figures and terrain in my collection lately in the queue for painting that feature rope. Rope belts, rope straps, thatch held together by rope, etc. I've never been truly happy with how I've approached this in the past, and was hoping to get some ideas or website tutorials about tackling rope.

Thanks in advance for help/guidance/cheeky comments.  ;)

1. Vallejo German Beige/ Stone Grey/ Buff according to taste, followed by a darker wash. Highlight raised coils.

2. Dark Brown/ Black grey base followed by dry brush of your preferred rope colour.

Of course you might say tyat’s just a load of old rope.  :)

For me it is a basic setup of a bone color or other warm off white followed by a wash of a brown acrylic ink and a far thinner black acrylic ink and a highlight or drybrush of the original color...with the drybrush/highlight being swapped for other colors depending upon what I'm working with in order to work with the rest of the paint job.

Thanks Carlos. I think I may have those colors and give it a go. I don't use washes, so I'll skip that step.

Yeah, my recipe was Vallejo khaki, followed by GW Karak Stone, then Karak Stone/Vallejo Buff. So I guess brown, bieges and off-whites seem to be popular.
