Crossing the Platozzi(?) AK47
« on: October 28, 2021, 05:51:57 PM »
My chance to introduce Mach's Mecha to the joy that is AK47.
He flicked through the rules & expressed an interest in 'Peoples'
Popular Front' I lent him my 'Army' which is PPF.  I took my Navy
to oppose him.
The omens were not good, when dicing for the Political Manoeuvre
he gained goodies, an extra 100 pts of militia, 40 pts added to a unit
& even running shoes for another unit!  I meanwhile had a Professional
unit downgraded to regular!
Worse followed, the odds say that the defender (Me) will start with
more on the table, but I believe in defying the odds  ;D ;D ;D
I started with two of my weakest units. My best two turned up
on (what turned out to be)  the penultimate & ultimate moves. :'(
One failed to turn up at all. >:(
He even got the 100 pt Militia unit to arrive, echoing the final scene
of the film Zulu, the appeared on the ridgeline, saluted 'fellow Braves'
& walked off.
Picture shows the battlefield from the North, with the River Platozzi.
I had expected there to be a big fight over the river, hence the
title of the AAR. The question mark is because neither of us got near
to it!

The impoverished army of Zboo (his) forced into service all
kinds of transport, some quite ancient. An added embarrassment
for this car driver was that, those members of the unit that
couldn't fit in the motor had gained the previously mentioned
running shoes. They were frequently faster than the vehicle! :o

'Careful past the wreck lads.  I reckon they're out there somewhere'

My mortars prepare to fire on his convoy, & (big surprise for Militia
at long range, especially for MY militia) they achieve a direct hit &
a pin. His unit fail two of their three morale tests right then & there.
They spent the rest of the battle hiding just out of range by sitting
on top of one of the three objectives. :(

My mortar unit, having failed their third morale test, flee the table
but the fallen remain.

The tanks that forced them to run.

Zboo forces swarm towards the unoccupied hill.

Not that he needs it, but Chris (my opponent) gets reinforcements. :'(

My remaining unit, having debussed (no point giving his tanks
easy targets) prepare to fix bayonets & retake the hill by storm.

His annoying tanks continue to dominate the battlefield. I have
nothing to worry them. Mortars have run away, my infantry don't
have any RPGs & my heavy (Saladin) Armoured cars won't turn
up until after nightfall.

The bayonet charge goes in. 'This will be bloody' I warn Chris.

It was, but for ME !!!!  :'(  Despite out numbering his unit almost
two to one...he routs me. Another unit lost! (I only had two  :`)

Too late to win the battle, my Saracen A-cars determine to make
at least one of his units pay. Closing to under the minimum range
of his mortars seemed a good idea, but his small arms fire took
out one of the Saracens! :o :o :o

Game then ended & the post battle scoring started.
The highest score that the rules cover for a winner is
21 or more.  Chris' score was...
FIFTY EIGHT !!!!!!  :o

A good game & much fun was had.
A desirable result to my mind.  :)

I think we’ll see Chris in the pound shop, getting some cheap armour, in order to raise his own winning army in the future. Lol.

Thanks lads. Chris has already pointed up an army for himself,
we did that after the game. In the best AK47 tradition he will
be using/looking for WW2 surplus. His first three vehicles (tanks
he already has) ex-British WW2.  :)

Despite the drubbing, yes I did. As usual with AK47
poor generals (like me) can always blame the machinations
of fate. If I had had my two units of A-cars on from
the start, instead of just as the game ended... lol lol lol

A great looking game - AK47 used to be one of my favourite games, but for reasons that I can’t remember I sold off all of my armies long ago  :? :'(

Why not start again?
If not in 15mm, then there are a lot of nice things in 1/144th or 1/200th

If I was starting AK47 from scratch, GHQ’s 1:285 modern range would be mighty tempting …

true, though in that kind of size I would be tempted to mount
the infantry up in whole units & keep a tick sheet for casualties etc.

That I most definitely will! For the glory of the people of Zboo, the red army shall march again!

Seriously, though, it was a fun game and the rules were easy to get the hang of after a few turns. Next time I'll play defense and see if I can hold off the enemy invaders from obtaining the objective points.

Zboo cannot be allowed to exist as an independent state. The land is a province of Zaio, it is where the Sacred Porcupines propagate. I will be along shortly to subjugate your people once again.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
