I do agree with your concluding remarks too - these inter-war forts are fascinating, but seem from the wrong time. They seem massively under armed for what they need to do, and seem to have far too few options for a more fluid defence. Even some trench lines would help allow the defender more mobility, around the defensive works.

As was shown at Eben Emal it really didn’t need a lot of attackers to neutralise the fort. You feel at EE if the defenders had been able to counter attack out of the fort effectively they could have defeated the FJ. But instead they were bottled up inside.
