Now I want to build a couple ships...not sure that I have the skills...

I realize this thread is bordering on moribund, but I was struck by how close the ships of 'War...Welcome to Purgatory' are to my beginning spaceships I'm building for an unofficial contest on the The Miniatures Page on the spaceship gaming forum.

Really, the disposable razor handles I'm going on, and on, about have just such 'prows'. The turrets I'm using wouldn't be THAT out of place. All I'd need is PS tubes for stacks, some chopped plastic sheets, and small spinning screws, and that would be it.

I like the ships and the back ground isnt  bad ether for the comic there based off of. I would like to see some one make some mins based off of these guys

I bet that a reasonable imitation of these could be made with Wargames Factory's new Sci-Fi Greatcoat Troopers + their Romans + the Colonial Brits.

In fact, I'm tempted to try this myself.  o_o

Well, it is a good topic.  :D

The main question is, how do you fit these guys into a "historical", Victorian setting? Are they Imperial Italians? Do they come from a long cut off Roman settlement from the Hollow Earth? Africa? A revolutionary faction?

Well, you may use same principle as I when I created Baron Fitenbah. These Romans may be Italians wich immigrated to Mars, Venus, Marcury, Jovian satelites (Sure that VSF Jupiter moons have life). They created their own small country with their own uniform inspired by their Ancient Roman Ansestors :)

My Baron Fitenbah bought astronef, mofe to  unexplored region on Venus and founded the colony. Then rich gold deposits was found by him. Now because of immigrants he have small country with small army. Their uniform are like in Seven years war but weapon are modern.

mmmm...It brings up a nice idea for a scenario entirely on a huge-mungous aero.  Make up 3-4 platforms for play, with each representing a floor on the aero. Each being maybe 8"-12" wide and ~36" long (sized so you can get at least 3 abreast on your game table).

Use them as a lost Roman colony. I know one of the Tarzan books by ERB was based on finding just such a Roman outpost in Darkest Africa. Just advance the story line to were they have adapted to the VSF world and modernized vis a vis the Japanese in the Menji Era.

I'm quite taken with the 'Hollow Earth' idea. Perhaps they're a lost expedition or Legion even... maybe from Varus's lost Legions, or the IX maybe, and they found an entrance to the Hollow Earth 1800 or so years ago.

Hmm, I like that. Will have to think on that one.

Tell you what, that has potential.

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for possibilities at Salute.

The Brits are mostly for the rifles. You could probably get more rifles using the Zulu sprues. Plus, you could use the left over Zulus as auxiliaries.

Better yet. Simply buy some packs of Mausers from Brigade Models for your rifles.

could be cheaper to buy some 1:35 weapon packs for WWII

they are not that oversized and could fit well with the WF greatcoats
But I'd rather use the imperial roman heads
