Old Citadel large female fighters finished...
« on: 02 February 2022, 11:25:59 PM »
Great fun minis to paint! Some of these have been an ongoing paint job since around when they were released... they hardly sold when I worked in GW Manchester although one lady used to buy as many as she could when she came in. Rick Priestley said they ended up cutting the figures out of the moulds as retailers were complaining that they didn't sell... Alan Merrett mentioned that he picked that task up! Only 6 versions that I know of.

I've never seen these before!  :o

Great little figures, the one in the red shirt is my favourite, I think I used to work with her....

Pity they didn't see more uptake by customers. Seems back in the day body diversity wasn't something people were interested in. Well painted and they all have a lot of charakter.

It's becuase all us prepubescent lads were to busy trying to buy the Sam Phoxx  and Dungeon mistress miniatures becuase ...well...boobs.

Back in the day I'm afraid my school gaming buddies and I only wanted female miniatures who looked like Sandahl Bergman in Conan. In our defence we were only 11 and 12.

Those are great actually!  :)

Shame they didn't sell, but considering the target demographic, I can imagine.

I like the helmeted one best myself. Seems like she could still fit in well among current miniatures...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Great to see these all together. I've been trying to find the one 3rd from left for a while. It would make a nice addition to my old school warbands.

She's my favourite from all of these. Great characterful figures. :)

Just looking through stuff of legends looks like the ladies were available as C series fighters classed as warrior maidens. They appeared in the 1st Compendium which dates them to around 1983.

I like the middle two, the others not so much. The giant fez is inexplicable, as is the pinhead squeezed into the full helm and judging by their faces, the two on the right must have some sort of toad heritage (maybe they're half orcs?).

The painting, however, is just lovely.

I'm guessing that it's a hennin that the figure on the left is wearing, marking her out as a member of the nobility.
