Terrain for enclave of upper crust elites (15mm)?
« on: 09 February 2022, 06:18:12 AM »
Has anyone used these terrain kits for futuristic enclaves, mansions or gardens in a gated communities in SF settings?

I’m thinking Firefly core planets or like the fancy upper crust parks and mansions in Elysium (2013).  Perhaps in a heist game or an assassination attack on the home of some useless oligarch and their security bots?

Thoughts?

Dan

I haven't, but I can see how that would work. How many are you looking at?

I bought one set of each a few minutes ago, so 4 pavilions total.

I’m also thinking that the pavilions could be cut down the middle and be used for sheltering (a mini porch) at front doors of buildings/homes.  Thoughts?

Oh, yeah, I think they would look really good as porch or facade decorations. Class the place right up! lol

Plus, if you cut them, or some of them, you could really add a number of buildings for your swanky new neighborhood.

I didn't poke around too much, but can you get other architectural elements that would match up with those? Columns, gingerbreading, and such? Could be another way to make some fancy buildings.

Yup. That is probably a colloquialism, but I'm not an architect. All the detail work along the roofline and porch.

Or this.

There are a number of different styles that this can take. It just bumps up the level of ornate design, which I read as 'fancy." This kind of detail could be painted metallic and added to some fancy abodes in a more geometric application. To frame around a window or door, perhaps.

Hi Dan,
You can easily saw them in half but it would depend on the material they're made off. Then stick them to foamboard, or card or  balsa to create facade only buildings.

Look up Dave Graffam's superb card models also.

Plus if you have access to a PLA printer you can easily print flat pieces ( windows, doors etc) . There are loads of free models on Cults, Thingyverse etc...

Eg.

Yep, gingerbread is the term. https://www.britannica.com/technology/gingerbread-architecture
There are a whole host of HO (1/87) plastic kits available containing such addd ons- secondhand they shouldn't cost much. Grandt Line also have parts that might suit. https://www.grandtline.com/for-the-model-railroading/ho-scale-model-railroad/# Look in the "architecture' section.
