This is all very good.  :-*

I love the way you have made the wall pieces removable, to represent breaches - bloody brilliant.

I did notice though, that the last wall piece has a debris pile flowing down the wall's face. I assume this piece has no wall "filler"?

i hope to blatantly steal your design for my Indostan (India) campaign.  :)

By all means fsultana... and well spotted. 2 are indeed conventionally modelled breaches. Because I didn't want to have loads of permanent breaches and the game calls for several I opted for walls with removable sections. Once painted up it will hide a multitude of sins. That way you can model the rubble core with debris (as long as it doesn't interefere with the cover). I also plan to model a little debris front and back, as well as having separate rubble 'ramps' to place in front of the breaches. It may make gaming a little complicated but under Armies of Arcana FIBUA is considered in skirmish order in any event.

An update on the project...
I have now completed 7 feet of military road to run partially behind the wall, in convenient 8" long sections, with a crossroads. I wanted it to have a run down, ancient look in keeping with the wall and it ended up looking vaguely like a Roman road so I was quite pleased with the result :)

the wall sections (still WIP) but well on the way...
2 wall sections, 4 with removable breaches and 1 breached section. Still to be detailed with debris. Separate debris field bases will be modelled to place in front and behind and there will be a scatter of fallen stonework on the berm in front.

The 8" breached wall (sans debris) between two new 8" wall sections. I have also modelled 4 sets of additional steps to reach rampart level which can be placed at convenient intervals.

Really nice flagstone roads (and walls).

Did you put some thin foam on top to inscribe the surface, or was it made by some other eans?

I like all the stuff you're doing for this, it says LotR more than GW does (old skool  8) )

cheers

Argonor,
Yes this is styrofoam insulation board again, with flagstone detailing inscribed with a bluntish pencil. I'm using thin veneers 5 to 10mm thick for the wall sections over an expanded polysterene core, with 15mm thick battlements. The road sections are made primarily from the 5mm slithers from between the battlements, randomly arranged. The trick is not to mind if the pieces are not the same thickness. Any imperfections in surface/cutting become interesting details when painted. Despite having made 7 feet of road the large bag of offcuts/scraps does not seem much emptier... :o

jimbibbly,
I'm pleased with the overall look, but I can't wait to see it populated with figures and under attack by my 7 mumakil next April!

Really good idea to use the offcuts. Must remind myself to keep all that kinds of bits in a bag instead of throwing them.

The first full dress rehearsal of all the wall pieces together on the only free piece of office floor long enough. Still lots more to do but you get the idea...
The whole 4 yards worth :D

A view from the centre to the right end

Very, very nice. I, to, am particularly by the roads. A simple but very convincing design.

This really does look wonderful. I must say as much as I enjoyed the LOTR films my minds eye had a much less "fantastic" vision of the creatures esp. the Mumakil so I'm pleased you're going your own way here and not using the GW figs for these. What DO you plan on using for the rest tho'?

A long long time ago I bought my first copy of White Dwarf, issue 53, which featured the whole of the battle of the Pelinnor Fields as a battle for WH 1st ed. I've always hankered to do something in middle earth since.

Good luck with the project and I look forward to seeing it next year!

Keep us posted meantime  :)

Aye. That's how the battles went down in out club to. What's the point in fighting a beast which looks like it belongs in 'The Mist' or 'Cloverfield'?
