Buying figures in Germany/the EU
« on: 02 March 2022, 08:54:31 PM »
I'd like to get a couple of packs of pulp figures, but I'm a bit cautious now that the UK and EU are in different customs zones: I've heard of people getting stung for customs charges for comparatively inexpensive items, and the charges doubled or tripled the costs once handling fees were added.

Does anyone have experience and/or advice in this areas, if, for example I'm buying something like Pulp Figures would it make more sense to order them from Canada?

The import charges that are being applied will apply for imports from Canada as well as the UK  -anywhere outside the EU.

The possible advantage in buying from the UK might be that the VAT is removed by the supplier so you aren't playing it twice (in effect) - I don't know if Pulp figures are 20% cheaper in Canada?

Each country in the EU has its own duty and tariff charges, they are not standardised. You will have to ask the local agents what the liability is.

I am in Spain and really struggle with anything from UK, I am still waiting for "customs clearance" on orders placed during Black Friday week. 6 weeks is my minimum "expected" delivery currently with a fixed €16 handling charge plus whatever VAT is levied on the purchase cost plus shipping charge.
Buying from USA or Canada I am finding small packets (size and value) are not being stopped despite Spain having a €0/free liability threshold. Inter EU shipments are fine as long as the seller completes the customs documentation.

Minimum shipping for a blister or 2 from UK to Spain is about £9 arriving in 6 to 12 weeks, from the States it is $13 arriving in 6 to 12 days.

It also depends of the companies. For example, I'm in France, I have bought few minis from Eureka Miniatures UK and haven't paid the VAT. You should check the conditions of every manufacturer, of course, only the biggest ones can offer that.

You could have a look at miniaturicum.de; not all codes are in stock but maybe the ones you're looking for are.

Hi Andy,

There is already a list of producers and distributors here in the EU. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the major manufacturers now have stockists.

As for ordering from the UK. Expect to pay a lot in Vat and collection fees. The last things we ordered/had sent over incurred a minimum 6€ fee from DHL+VAT. One parcel, this combination was nearly 50% the cost of the original items.

Best,

No problem to buy Pulp Figures in Germany. I buy all my Pulp Figures at Battlefield Berlin. If the code you are looking for is not listed yet, write them an email and they will order for you.

Forgot to say thanks for this: I've ordered some figures from Miniaturicum, who are very quick and helpful, if anyone else is reading and wondering where to order figures. They also seem to have a good range in stock most of the time...

Can second Miniaturicum for service and selection. Never had any trouble with them - and I'm in Canada.
