Victrix mounted Normans - size comparison?
« on: 11 March 2022, 11:00:25 PM »
Anybody able to give a size comparison of these excellent new figures?

I am tempted to get some to field as early Crusaders, but worried that they will dwarf my Perry Saracens.

Not started to assemble mine properly yet but I've taken a couple of quick shots if it helps.

The first is a Perry Crusader, Victrix Norman and a Perry Saracen.

The second is a Perry Crusader, Victrix Norman and a Crusader Norman.

Hope that's of use.

Very useful comparison, looks like they work with the other ranges.

Thanks for that RedRowan  8) very useful indeed. The Victirx horses are nowhere near as large as I had thought based on commentary over the years.

Excellent stuff.  8)

Thanks RedRowan, you're a scholar and a gentleman.

They look a little bigger, but within tolerable range.

cheers

I thought the commentary about Victrix horses was always that they were to small? :) Aren't those the same horses as used with the Ancient kits?

I’ve always felt they were on the small side although my experience is limited to their ancients figures. I may have some of them at home and if so I’ll try and take some comparison shots over the weekend.

I can completely understand why companies multi-task their horses, but given the noticeable different in size between a Norman warhorse, for example, and an Arab mare it would be nice to see a bit more variety sometimes.

I do not have the Victrix Norman cavalry yet, but if they are using the same horses as their other sets then I would not mix Victrix with Perry horses.

The Victrix and Perry mounts are very similar in height and length (Victrix being very slightly longer) but there is a huge difference in width when seen from above.

I would say that Victrix are close to twice the width of the Perry Norman/Crusader mounts, and is very noticeable when placed side by side.

The Victrix horses are very well fed beasties by comparison indeed  ;)

Anyone know how these Normans from Victrix compare to the plastic Normans from Conquest? How do they compare to the Arab cavalry from Gripping Beast?

Having seen that the figures have options that would make them fit Andalusia, I am over-the-top excited to get my hands on them. I have already ordered them with the intent to mix all the lines, so I'll post scale comparison pictures somewhere here when I get them all together.

Thanks

I believe that the European warhorse had not yet developed into the increasingly heavy destrier  of the later medieval era. 14-15 hands would be about right, so the Vitrix horses aren’t too bad, and preferable to some, which look like hobby horses! Of course the best are Perry’s  in my lowly and humble opinion.
