A reminder about your palm trees
« on: 30 March 2022, 08:02:04 PM »
I have 27 coconuts and cabbage palms in my yard.  Just occurred to me, they are a mess.  Dead fronds everywhere.  Unless your Mahdists have a lawn service, remember to put plenty of dead fronds down

Me, I just let nature take its course.  As fronds drop off the models, I glue them on the bases!

Must confess that as a New Englander visiting Florida and seeing a big honking palm on the ground, my first thought was: "Must be freaking deadly down here in the Fall!"

Good point. I wonder if the fallen fronds get eaten by goats or camels when not in a garden?

I thought fallen fronds were used to ventilate hot masters at the oasis?  ;)

Also, the real cheap trees you get at Publix cake decor dept have good fronds.  One tree has enough for several bases.

Also, shade lower fronds a green to yellow to brown mix, only the top ones are fresh

Yup, palm fronds have proven to be deadly.  We have one across the street from our house that gets seriously dangerous in high winds.  No fatalities to date that I know of locally.  But I sure avoid that sucker in those winds.

Inverted palm fronds can also do duty as ferns.
