Montrose: First Blood(s) [Jan '23 update]
« on: May 11, 2022, 06:30:32 PM »
Been at this project for awhile, but have been taking a different approach than usual. Like an old Hollywood epic, I've got a friend providing most of the cast of 1000s (i.e., painting many of the rank and file) and I'm focused on the main characters, scenography and props.

What good timing to have had my efforts align with Bloody Miniatures recent releases. Here's my first from that range, with some head and hat swaps to provide more 'cowbell' for the Montrose campaign.

These Bicorne are also lovely sculpts, and will be used as the command base for one of my Irish regiments.

I'll be making use of a number of tabletop markers for status, etc., as well. This is a 'Humiliation' marker, used when a stronger unit loses to a weaker in melee.

Similarly, these are a series of 'Lost Squadron' markers.

Here are the MacDonalds... (used a couple WL box sets)

And WL's Macolla (more of him later):

Lastly, getting some scenics elements together for the table as well. I'll be mostly using models from Jens' War of the Roses range, and this is a small chapel.

Much more to follow!

Well, brilliant  :-*
Love what you've done with the Bloody Miniatures - that was fast work 8)

I'm contemplating doing a release of Bloody Scots - basically taking 16 of the existing range, and getting Nick to convert / adapt them with new heads in assorted bonnets, plus border plaids / cloaks, and some distinctive Scottish weapons like Jedburgh staves, Lochaber axes, etc.
Just need to try to figure out if they'd sell well enough to justify the investment in the sculpting work, production of new moulds etc.
But it is very tempting...  ::)

Wow :o ! Those are stunning - lovely paint work and great dioramas created. It’s such a colourful and interesting part of the wars. Can’t wait to see more of the collection. The massed ranks of MacDonalds look especially good 👍.

@Richard, I would certainly be tempted by some Bloody Scots. It seems a popular part of the period to me. Would be lovely to have some more gentrified highlanders in trews, and some real humblies with nothing but stones to throw. More beards, as well  :D.  Alba gu brath!
