Maga blocks Pirate Quest ship
« on: 08 October 2009, 03:48:18 PM »
Hi Guys

The Pirate Quest ship is reduced from £40 to £15 at Debenhams (A UK based department store) online. Follow the link below.
http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_59741_1136044_-1

Some people on the forum have used mega bloks ships and converted them for use in their pirate games.
I'm thinking of getting one.

Just thought I would give you guys a heads up.

Karl

That is a great plastic toy ship, worth more than 15 pounds.  It has an advantage over the Mega Bloks Pirates of the Carribean line of ships in that the lower hull is one piece and has some small wheels that make it easier to move accross the game table.  Sinewgrab modified an ealier version of this hull called the Stormstalker by adding an extra mast (taken from the Empress junk) and decking over the little lego like bumps with grooved basswood pieces from Model Shipways.  One could also use "V groove" styrene from Evergreen for decking.  Maybe during the long dark days of winter I'll figure out how to post pictures.
Sailors have more fun!

Why is it that cool things like this only occur in large numbers AFTER I've spent most of my budgeted play-money I've been saving up for a few months?
You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

Hi Mike

I borrowed my wife’s camera to take some pics at lunch time but the SD card was not in the camera :(
I will have to post pics later on tonight.

But here are some dimensions for you.

Length: 52cm
Width: (in the middle) 16cm
Height: (again in the middle) 7.5cm
Height: (cabin end) 14cm
Mast: 52cm

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is any thing else you need.
It's a big ship not sure what I have let myself in for  :)

As requested here are some pics

I'm planning on adding a cabin for the captain.

As you can see from the last pic I need to sort out the deck so it is all one level.

I got one of the Pirates of the Carribean Ships - the large Chinese Junk - and laid down Balsa for a deck to rid it of it's lego bumps.  That done, it's beyond perfect.  I wish there were more Mega Block lines to choose from; it seems like their stuff is tailor-made for conversion.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Don't forget Playmobil.  Those Playmobil ships are similar in size to the Mega Bloks ones, affordable,  with nice hull shapes, and one doesn't need to do all that work to cover up the lego like bumps.

Hi. Apologies for digging up a slightly older thread...

My gaming group is going to be taking to the High Seas sometime after christmas, and after seeing this thread and pictures of a done up version of this ship, I've just picked one up from my local Debenhams (although maybe I should have bought two - they had about ten on the shelf), and have just started assembling it now - it's a very nice ship (or at least it will be, with some proper decking, details and some better looking sails) - even if it is larger than I expected (even if it's never used as an actual ship, it'll be a great project, and an awesome piece of scenery).

All in all, I think it's going to make a really great ship, and it's an awesome first addition to my fleet (i've got a Games of War Sea Dog on order too, hopefully i'll get that when this damned postal strike ends :)).
