Tiny Planes- *NEW* 1/300 Naval Oddities
« on: May 19, 2022, 10:30:22 PM »
This'll be something of an irregular feature, I've had the urge to paint tiny planes for a couple of years, but I just can't get into aerial gaming; I think I like the idea of it, rather than the mechanics...

Took the plunge with these three first, to keep the Malaya froth going.

Blenhiem I bomber (actually a fighter variant here, because I forgot to file off the ventral gun pack...) of Sqn Ldr Arthur Scarf VC, 62 Sqn RAF.

Brewster Buffalo I of P/O R D Vanderfield, 453 Sqn RAAF. Intriguing to consider what may have happened had the Commonwealth flown the more powerful variant used succesfully by the Finns...

Hawker Hurricane IIb Trop of 232 Sqn. The Hurricane force was something of an amalgamation of personnel and machines from various sources, so the usual squadron and aircraft codes weren't carried (a well known photograph shows one simply carrying a "D", but I'd ran out of D decals...) The four outboard .303s were commonly dispensed with to improve performance.

We are thinking (Flatpack will be doing the hard work) about using the
Fistful of Lead Star fighter rules. Should give a good fun & action packed game.

Those are excellent. Almost too good for gaming! There are quite a lot of rules options out there. What have you tried? There must be something to suit you!

Cheers guys! I have returned to scratch the intermittent Tiny Planes itch, this time with some naval oddities.

Grumman Martlet Mk III 805 NAS, North Africa, 1942. Part of an order for Greece taken over by the British, hence the unusual colour scheme (which no two sources really seem to agree on) of Middle Stone over US Navy Non-specular grey.

Bristol Beaufort Mk I,  Mediterranean, 1942. A highly unusual and non-standard scheme of Light amd Dark Mediterranean Blue over Azure, most likely 55 Sqn RAF's Station Hack rather than representative of their operational aircraft.

Hawker Sea Hurricane Mk IIc, 800 NAS, 1943. Another one with conflicting information in the sources about exact colour placements.

Fairey Fulmar Mk I. 806 NAS, Mediterranean 1940. Another wishful fudging of colour schemes from multiple sources, mainly due to confusion betwee  "Sky Grey" and "Sky Type S", it appears.

I don't care if you had to 'Fudge' the colours. They look brilliant. :-*
