Hot Trot Red Hand rules - ECW derivative
« on: 20 May 2022, 01:23:18 PM »
Just case it’s been done already, before I start thinking about it too much has anyone modified Hot Trot Red Hand* (late 16thC Border Reivers) to play Scottish Clans say 1650 onwards?

In a similar vein, I’m pondering carrying over some of the gameplay from HR-RH into a very small skirmish version of Pikemans Lament.

*these rules are by Richard Tyson and Graham Harrison, and were published in 2000
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

To my knowledge nobody has done this yet. As one of the the authors I'd be very interested in seeing what you do with it, so have fun!

Chris and I did a tweak way back at the club. :D using redoubt highlanders. If I remember the changes were relatively slight with Heidsmans and tacksmen etc. We dropped I. A rule for pipers for group moves I think. It was on the Vendel group the noughties. I think I based it on some books I'd been reading on Rob Roy etc

That’s interesting, thanks.

TBH I’m surprised at the paucity of such games to be found ‘on the net’, as Highland raiding and feuds seem so suited to skirmish gaming.

Having seen great ‘Scotch’ conversions of Bloody Miniatures, I can’t resist modding some myself to do double-duty for skirmish games alongside inclusion in my core ECW project.

I'd forgotten that you and Chris did that adaptation Karl. Have you still got the highlanders?
