Battle of the Bridges an ACW AAR
« on: June 04, 2022, 02:53:40 AM »
Using with From Shakos to Coal Scuttles Rules last Monday we played an ACW a meeting engagement using my 10MM miniatures! The objective of the game was to control the bridges on the tabletop or break the enemy!

The Confederates attacked on a narrow front rushing their horsemen ahead whilst the Federals advanced on a wide front with strong flanks. Unfortunately for the Confederates their Commander was incapacitated just as the action began, unlucky and crucially affecting their command rolls.
The Southern horseman reached both bridges initially but strong Union infantry pushed them back.
Both side infantry now jockeyed for the best positions and deployed in line. The ensuing firefight resulted in significant disarray on both sides units several falling back. At the height of the musketry battle the Union right broke the deadlock, with artillery support they advanced and started rolling up the Rebel line breaking their morale in the process!
The Southerners fled!

A close battle!

Some Pictures...

The Confederate Leader, Brigadier Neudegg leads from the front during the initial approach and was injured, he was 'hors de combat' for the rest of the game!

Dismounted Confederate horsemen covering an important bridge were driven back by two Regiments of Union infantry!

Rebel Infantry cross the stream putting pressure on the Union line.

Union infantry defeat a Reb Regiment and move to envelope the Confederate line.

The full AAR and lots of pictures are on the TSOG Blog...

Sounds like quite the scrum!  Hurrah for the Boys in Blue! :D

Well done with this.  Lovely looking units, and a great tactical problem to be solved for both sides...

How long did your game take to play?
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
