If Swedes and Pigs might fly?

I have made some bases of Swinefeathers, or Swedish Feathers, for my 28mm Swedish 17th century army.  More pictures, historical background, and how I made the bases, is all covered on my blog here: https://theviaregia.blogspot.com/2022/06/if-swedes-and-pigs-could-fly.html

Those are well executed - feels like the kind of thing that could have been improvised quite readily too. But also doesn’t seem to have been used too much.

Perhaps the time to deploy, coupled with making the unit static, wasn’t seen as that generally useful??

Nice one! I love how you write such a long and informative blog entry about a small piece of equipment. Well done and an excellent read  :-*

I wonder whether the Swedes stopped using them because the musketeers just got sick of carrying them. They probably had enough to carry without them.

Thanks, Rogue, much appreciated! 👍

Cheers, Fred 👍.  Yes, they must have been a right faff to get set up.  It seems they were only issued out for particular actions, and so if the troops were not well practiced in deploying them then I can imagine a fair amount of shouting ensued! 😆

Thank you, Nick! 👍  Friends might call me obsessive, but my really close friends say that I must have too much time on my hands! 😜

Cheers, Paul! 😀  I must admit that this was my thought also.  Interestingly a re-enactor on another forum has said that he and his pals have no trouble carrying them around with their muskets and rests as well.  Apparently they even make a handy proto-bayonet when held with the musket.

Now that’s a good idea to use all the spre weapons.  :-*
As others have said, the great thing is that they look really as if ad hoc constructed on the field, and I mean that as praise, instead of finished terrain pieces carried around.
