Under the skirts
« on: June 23, 2022, 12:59:39 PM »
Unnecessary question I guess but the completist in me needs to ask.
Were schurzen painted on the inside?
I don’t mean camouflage, but dunkelgelb? Red oxide primer? “exit this way”?
Anyone know?

I don't really know, but I would expect them not to be painted. They wouldn't rust away anyway.

Why wouldn't they rust?

Why wouldn't they rust?

They would, but they wouldn't rust AWAY given that their thickness is a couple of millimetres at least.

Cheers lads - I know I’m overthinking this.
If they’re made in a tank factory then I can see them getting automatically sprayed with primer just because. But they’re essentially disposable bits of plate steel, no doubt made in a general workshop and mated with the tank later.
But then you give a squaddie a spray gun and tell him to paint that tank....

Hit up some people from the Imperial War Museum (on Facebook, etc.) - they might be able to answer this.  See if you can pop a question over to Hillary Doyle?

Found a pic - Pz 3 M angled so you can see the first couple of feet of the inside of the far plate and it’s support struts - it’s dunkelgelb folks. On my phone so no pic but it’s dunkelgelb

Did anyone really expect Germans not to paint the bits you can’t see? ;)
