Flying wing Nefs.
« on: July 09, 2022, 09:34:42 PM »
Here we go, with castles in the sky taking of (pun intended) and macross martin taking a stab at it as well I'm giving in and trying my hand at sculpting some airships. I'm starting small with fighters (triplane push props, obviously) and a gunboat, semi flying wing design. I'm aiming for more fully flying wing models for the larger classes.

3d designer, sculptor and printer, at your service!

Pretty cool
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

He is indeed very talented! I'm proud to have lured him to the steamy side of SF ship design.  :D
Operating from an abandoned US spy base somewhere in the Australian outback, Miniature Martin produces games and scale miniatures set in parallel worlds, past and future. He is NOT trying to take over the Earth. This time.

A unique design that I have not seen on the market anywhere else.  Cool stuff!

A unique design that I have not seen on the market anywhere else.  Cool stuff!

I´ve definitely got a style of my own, and I´m lucky that there are a lot of sectors of the hobby where that niche has not been filled yet.

Meanwhile, I´ve sketched out another slightly larger ship. A light torpedo frigate maybe?
I'm mostly trying to work out a shape language here, so that if I decide to make another line I have a bit of universal style for it all.

This one is going to need some fancy swirlies on it as well ofcourse, but I'm still unsure about the overall shape. It might all be just a bit too modern and sleek?

Handsome beasts, indeed.

Not my vision of pre-WWI aircraft, as I follow the 'anti-grav aeronef/lighter-than-air aerostat' conceit, these come close to softening this curmudgeon's hard heart.  ;)

You certainly might 'greble it up, but I'm not sure it would improve.

But then, I also don't follow the 'VSF air warfare is pre-dreadnought' mantra...

Thanks B.

Yep I'm still considering how to make these feel a bit more old-timey, the smoke stack isn't doing enough. Greebles is a challenge as at 1/1200 these things are tiny! Less than a CM long and only a couple wide roughly, so any details I make need to be bold and clear. (Not sure the engine details will work in the physical version for example) but these renders look so bare without it.
