Suggestions and help with signwriting 28mm British shop signs 1930/40s homefront

Morning all, I was hoping I could get some help on signage for my WW2 homefront project high street shops. Newsagent, Off licence Grocers etc. Not being the most artistically minded and knowing nothing about calligraphy etc does anyone know how I could set about sign writing in 28mm. I've no problem making the signs for the shops but  getting them to look right rather than a sign scrawled in pencil is a bit beyond me. Are there any fonts, stencils or instructions anyone knows of? Also, 'Dafont' has a lot (and I mean, a lot) of fonts but it's a case of scrolling down and seeing what's there. Most are free and they're easy to download - you just click and it's on your font file. Try searching for 'Old School', 'Shop', 'Typograph', 'Emporium', etc..

Try these for popular font types for the period. Bear in mind not all used for such things as advertising hoardings or shops signs but still gives you an idea.

A great system for painted signs on buildings, mostly brick, is to print out sign on paper.   Use fine sandpaper and carefully sand back of paper until it's almost see through (don't worry about small holes, they'll look fine in the end)

Now, using water/pva, wet building surface, and stick paper on.   When dry, will look very much like painted signage
