Yesterday we had a game in 15mm using the new Armoured Storm rules.
We’d collected plenty of figures in 15mm over the years, but only played a few games, so when Has.been came across these new rules, we thought we’d give it a go.
We played an encounter battle between a British force and an Italian force.
The rules are different to any we’ve played before, as the two opposing force pick actions/orders from a shared list. This means you can pick orders that you think you’ll need, but you can also pick orders that your opponent might go for. This stops him getting that order option.
So JC played the Italians and I played the Brits.
Initial battlefield layout.
British light units enter the field.
Armoured cars and Vickers light tanks.
Brits advance towards the Italians.
You can see the order sheet in the background.
The main Italian tank force, take the high ground and we used a few stones from Peters garden to signify “dug in”.
First blood to the Italians, as the British armoured car unit takes a pounding.
British Grant advance on the Italian armour, firing as they go forward.
The Grants are stopped in their tracks.
The Italians advance, and the Brits have to throw in their reserve Crusader tanks.
But it’s to no avail, as the Italian armour sweeps across the battlefield.
So the Brits have lost the right side of the battlefield.
On the left hand side, the Italians had advanced with their armoured car unit, only to encounter a unit of British Matilda tanks.
The Italians then played their trump card, with semoventi spgs appearing in support.
At this stage, the game was up for the Brits, who left as quickly as they got there.
Verdict - Playable rules.
Suited the historical period.
Fast and furious.
