Starting First Carlist Wars Project
« on: September 24, 2022, 03:44:28 PM »
So I finally decided to cave in and start this wonderful period.

All it took was 5 seconds to see the Carlist Uniforms and Berets and my money was parted from wallet lol

I managed to grab a copy of Conrad Cairns "The First Carlist War 1833-1840" off eBay and have ordered some other material also. Been using some hobby time to research on the period also. There is some absolutely wonderful characters with focus on smaller actions which really appeal.

The initial plan is to paint a small 50-60pt force of Carlists for Sharp Practice rules and then focus on some Liberals. I'm particularly keen on the Basque region forces under the army of Tomás de Zumalacárregui, Ramón Cabrera is also a mighty interesting chap. For the Liberals I will focus on Militia forces sent to keep those regions in check alongside some French Foreign Legion. This is the starting plan anyway.... ;)

Very happy with how the two tests came out and have started the process of batch painting.

Initial Carlists are 16 Line Infantry, with some officers and retinue and some Guías de Navarra.

More updates to follow when they are done!

Cheers
Andy

Very nice and well done getting the Cairns book.  It seems to be quite hard to find now.

Congratulations on getting the Cairns book, good job!! Nice start to your project, nice painting. It's a good conflict to wargame, I am building forces for both sides, an ongoing project! Will be following yours with interest. :)

Great work I started the same way with  a small scale Sharp Practice project and now have an infantry division per side and the supports. Lovely figures and uniforms. Whats not to like.

Thanks for the interest all so far!

Just finished ospreys book on the Carlist which although short was a nice addition to the period knowledge (the colour plates in this book are REALLY nice).

Some hobby update from me. First 16 done with some officers and musicians/banner bearers nearly there. Working on another Block now.

Ive made a big purchase of some skirmishers, priests and a nice chunky block of 24 which will be a different regiment (thinking Tortosa at moment as I love that white pants and Beret). Plenty of screenshots attached  :D :D

Also WIP on some Guias De Navarres.

Just a quick progress update from me,

Abroad at the moment but managed to take some models with me in hope of finishing these Carlists off by New Year (at least for the time being  ;))

Another Block of 16 and some Skirmishers with the Classic Red/Blue Greatcoats.

Also started some working on the block of 24 1st Guipuzcoans with Summer Trousers as detailed in the Cairns plates.

Plan is for a Unit of Cavalry and then Focus on some Isabelino next year. (I'm already up to around 60 models painted for my Carlists, so time to push on)

Will post more once all complete. Have a great Xmas and New Year all!
