Mysterio and co

I've been messing about with supers recently, had some great games, mostly using 'canon' characters, but sometimes we make a few of our own.  Here's some minor conversions I've done.



I did a Hulk conversion from a Reaper golem, like a couple of other folks here.  It was fairly easy, and I think he turned out OK?

 I also wanted a Mysterio, but I didn't get him in the few packs of Heroclix I bought (For a dollar a box!  ) and I didn't like the sculpt of the Clix one much anyway.

So I set about making one.  I used a 10mm pearl dropper button thing, dremeled flat at the bottom and then attached to the decapitated body of Reaper's Captain Griffon (http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/chrono/latest/50027).  I had to build up the cloak with greenstuff, and tried to sculpt the gloves to look like Mysterio's.  He needs a blast of dullcoat and basing, but he's about finished, I think.

I'm quite pleased with the way he turned out, but I wish I could find an 8-9mm pearl dropper thingy.  Luckily that model is quite broad, so it looks ok.  Also, how does one make greenstuff smooth?  I've tried water and grease, but I still can't manage it. Plus, how do you shape greenstuff when set? It's hard to file or cut with any finesse 

The Invisible Girl is a repaint of the one from the starter set.  Turns out she's made from transparent plastic, so I stripped her legs and touched her up all over (cough).  Not great, but an improvement on the original figure.

Very impressive all round. 

Greenstuff - a very sharp blade and a very steady hand. If you prefer to file etc when set you would be better using another putty such as superfine milliput but if like me you wil not like the trade off in its properties when wet.

I used to use blades but have moved onto to clayshapers for smooting gs these days, perfect tools for the job. Cutting and filing is a doodle as pointed out above.

Loving all three there, with special love going to ol' green and mean and mr fishbowl, (though if you read the spidey rumours everythings about to change with the sinister six's costumes very soon).

i think they are all good, but particularly mysterio,

the large head size works fine, makes him look very impossing, and the greenstuff extras are spot on.

Excellent painting and conversion. The Mysterio figure is particularly fine

Rather than switching to Milliput, you may find that using a mixture of Green Stuff and Brown Stuff yields a texture more conducive to filing/sanding/scraping. I agree with Commander Vyper, Clay Shapers are the way to go for smoothing surfaces.

I'll have to try some brown stuff, it will be nice to try out some other materials, especially if I can mix the ratio of green/brown. I think I'm one of those people that likes to rough stuff in, then patiently shape it once set, just suits me better for some reason.  I'll also get some clayshapers, I've been using blades mostly, with a couple of custom things I whittled from plastic, myself.  I don't think they quite do the job!

How tall did mysterio work out? Is he closer to 28mm or 35mm?

He's certainly closer to 35mm (36mm to the top of his dome) - most of the Reaper Chronoscape figures tend to be on the larger side.  He fits in well with a majority of the Clix figures, though their scale seems to vary quite a bit; they're mostly on the larger side too.

About Green Stuff - there was an article on the GW website yesterday about this very thing. It said this:

Matt made this unit's banner by making a sausage of Green Stuff and then rolling it out flat with a rolling pin. He stopped the Green Stuff from sticking to anything by coating it in petroleum jelly.

Good old fashioned spit works just as well, for flat pieces try using a tile or clingfilm and leave your greenstuff for 10 minutes or so, (even longer) if you want to smaller tight shapes, cuts etc...

Don't need GW to tell you that!
