Gist's Additional Regiment
« on: October 26, 2022, 02:12:19 PM »
This is Gist's Additional Continental Regiment. Not much is known about this regiment, other than it was raised in Southern NJ and Maryland. It was supposed to be a "light" regiment and was to include American Indians.
Four Light Infantry companies were called for, but only three were actually raised. Two companies went with the 3 RD MD and the other was assigned to the 11 VA. It appears that at some point, the remains of Grayson's and Foreman's Additional units were both absorbed into Gists Regiment.
They were brigaded in with the Marylander's and fought in the Philly Campaign and at Monmouth, which is where I have depicted them.

I've been to Monmouth numerous times. That part of NJ is full of gentle, rolling fields. In June, the wild grass would be calf high and those white "flowers" are not flowers at all, but weeds that grow everywhere. This is what I think that it would look like at the time of the battle. Just my opinion.

This is a real leftovers special. You can probably find 6 or 7 different brands of figures mixed together in this Regiment. Foundry, Perry, F&D, Eureka, Brigade, OG are all represented. As are several conversions!!

Nice way to use "left over" figures.

Is it me, the color rendering on the screen, or did you use different colors of browns for the coats?

Looks nice regardless.

I really like the mix of figures from different manufacturers in the unit - makes it look more natural.

"did you use different colors of browns for the coats?"

Yes. I like variety.

Yes, and different color browns almost certainly better represent the reality - no modern mordants to fix colors back then so I'm sure there were variations, even from the same batch.

More good-looking figures!

Since you mentioned Monmouth, I don't suppose you've done up Malcolm's Additional regiment? They were brigaded in the 3rd Pennsylvania Brigade.  I have an ancestor who was in that Regiment, who fought at Monmouth.
