Still not played 0200 hrs yet! 🙁

However, we may be getting nearer!  Jamie is well on with the planes.

Progress pics

And I just bought a couple of Debris of War staff tents.   They are a tad modern in appearance, but won’t detract from the feel of a ww2 temporary air base me thinks…..they are awaiting painting.

I thought a sandbag gun emplacement for some anti aircraft protection was in order.   Thinking I’d start big, I decided to do one for the 88 first…..me thinks I will just do smaller 20cm emplacements from now on!   The sand bags drove me to distraction!!!

Jamie has suggested I do a small ammunition bunker to go with it….sounds like a plan.

Didn’t turn out too bad though.   Here pictured with an as yet unfinished 88.

I will pass it along!  Just sent me the latest on the planes…these are great considering the cheap price, and very deep plate lines he needed to contend with.   Especially seeing as these are effectively pieces of scenery! 😉

Just ordered a couple of quad 20cm flak guns from Anyscale models.    I will make nest for these and paint a few SAS raiders and the game is on!

DAK  Attack gives a good game of that kind of raid.
Thanks to Bob providing the 15mm figures & vehicles we have had several good games.

Really want to explore 0200 hours as I think I will like the mechanic.

Saying that, I also fancy getting half a dozen LRDG. Ehicles which will be more suited to SAK Attack I’m sure! 😉

Indeed! Cracking work on both the field emplacemnets and the fighters. :-*

Quad 20mm? That's going to be highly unpleasant for anyone facing that. More likely that they would be single barrel Flak38s in the desert as these were what the Luftwaffe Flak Battalion attached to DAK was fielding, along with 88mm guns at the time.

Here's an interesting piece on Axis used airfields in North Africa. Gives a bit of detail about buildings present, airfield type etc:

Cheers for the link….seen that one before but very useful.

Didn’t know that about the quads…..but they were very cheap and are more “scenery” than directly dangerous me thinks for what we have in mind ( I may be wrong though….)

Another trip to my parents and another gift from my wood turning father!

Just as he had made me an onion for my Eastern Orthodox Church, he has now made me a mosque dome so I dare say at some point….i need to build one!

I have also bought a selection of ammo boxes and will be making a sand bagged enclosure for them.   The SAS minis are next on my paint tray and I received a few pink panthers and jeeps for Christmas….so lots to crack on with here….

Nice bit of turning!

A mosque, particularly one with a minaret would rather suggest a substantial town. I dunno if that's on your agenda. If it is you can save yourself a bit of work, if you care to, by picking up the Italeri North African House. It's nominally 1/72 but as it's such a substantial structure it's easy to make it work with 28mm. Warlord after all, have just rebranded the other 1/72 Italeri structures. It's a fantastically useful bit of kit. Can be used as a large dwelling, a prison or with or without the addition of a free standing minaret...a mosque.

If you fancy something a little more down market there's the famous tomb at Sidi Rezegh as an alternative. Because it was on the battlefield it's pretty well photographed.
