BIG BADABOOM!

Thank you all for the kind words. Here come the big guns. General Major von Holzendorf commands the Reserve Artillery of IV Korps.

The Reserve Artillery is composed of three heavy batteries (three sections of 12pdr and one 10" howitzer), a dedicated 7" howitzer battery, and a regular 6pdr battery.

With the latest batch of artillery, I have not only completed IV Korps' infantry and artillery, but also reached the half-way mark for the Prussians!

Specifically, I have now painted 1,309 Prussian figures with 1,288 left to paint. Those break down into 763 infantry left (1,042 painted), all 328 cavalry, 121 artillery figures (180 painted), and 76 command/other figures (87 painted). Getting this far has taken 8 months from the first painted Prussians in late September 2024. Slower than the Anglo-Dutch, but I am still cautiously optimistic that I can finish up the Prussians in 2026.

To celebrate this half-way mark, here is the grand old man, Marschal Vorwaerts, Generalfeldmarschall Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher Fürst von Wahlstadt with his staff officers.

I am plunging into the cavalry with a push to batch-painted all of the horses first. That's 300+ mounts which will take a little while. Once the mounted are done, it will be fairly efficient to complete the 20+ cavalry regiments, starting with those in IV Korps. In anticipation of this, here are Prinz Wilhelm of Prussia, commander of IV Korps Reserve Cavalry. I gave him "division" status so two figures on the base plus a cavalry adjutant in spiffy white uniform.

The first cavalry brigade was commanded by Oberst von Schwerin. For the field grade cavalry commanders I tried to find biographical information to find out their parent regiments and then use the corresponding uniform. In this case, von Schwerin seems to have achieved field grade in the 1. Dragoon so he is wearing their uniform.

I also painted one of the very few "unique" units of the Prussian army in the form of 14. Horse Battery which was from the Luetzow Legion and thus wore black uniforms. They also used British-style 6pdrs which adds a bit more variety.

Lovely painting.  Best of luck on grinding out 300 horse as that is not an easy task.

Current count is 1469 Prussian figures painted, 1144 left to go. The is excluding the horses which are progressing well. Should be done this week.

Meanwhile, I have been painting a few additional senior command bases for variety during the horse batching. The first is General-Leutnant von Gneisenau who was effectively Bluecher's parallel commander as head of the General Staff. The second is Bluecher's Chief of Staff GM von Grolman with some staff officers on foot. Having lots of senior command bases like this feels like a good representation of the excellent Prussian staff systems.

TO HORSE!

Batch nightmare completed - powering through was the only option to get this done. Here we have 300+ painted horses to cover all of the Prussian cavalry. The four trays hold Calpe, Warlord, Perry with fur blanket, Perry with cloth blanket.
