The 2nd Battle of Caldiero 1805 - The Refight
« on: 05 December 2022, 05:22:20 PM »
Here's a game we played recently at the Carmarthen Old Guard, using 'Napoleon's Battles' rules.  As in the actual battle, it was definitely something of an attritional bloodbath!  Still bloody good fun though... :)

Absolutely FANTASTIC! I thought they were 28mm at first glance! Beautiful figures and terrain and a magnificent AAR! Thank you for sharing!

Impressive looking game and armies. I especially like the white coach model.

Thanks both, that's very kind of you!  :D

The 'Wounded Massena in his coach at Wagram' model came in one of the Old Glory 15s French Marshal packs, back in Old Glory's 'Big Bag' era.  I don't know if it's available any more.  It originally had four horses and a driver, but they were lost before I asked 'Osmoses' of this parish to paint it (Osmoses these days can usually found showing off his astonishing Samurai collection).  Lacking any information, I originally asked Osmoses to paint the carriage in 'Imperial Green', but later found that it was very conspicuously painted white and pulled by white horses, so I gave it a repaint three years ago before a 'Massena at Wagram' game.

What the model REALLY needs is one of Massena's female 'aides' semi-dressed as a hussar on the seat next to him...  :D

Lovely!
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I like Messena's, um, interpretation of events.  I suppose, as it's his story, he can write his dispatch as he sees fit...

Anyhoo, lovely game and report.  Well done, lad!

Thanks Cap'n!

I thought that a character such as Massena would definitely try to put the most positive spin on his dispatch, leavened with a little light bribery and/or blacmail.  :D
