Good evening everybody!
I've been invited to discover this venerable forum a few days ago, as one of its eminent members, Mystery Machine, left a comment on my blog with a link to his gallery (very nice Orcs). I had to reactivate the account I made a few months ago, and here we are.
I'm Philotep from Lyon, France. I'm 54, and discovered metal minis in the mid 80s while playing my first sessions of AD&D with school friends. So the first figures I bought back then were Citadel Orcs... I still have them in my collection
At the same period, I was also interested in history, particularly Ancient period and Napoleonic wars, and began to use 1/72 toy soldiers to build several armies, mostly Airfix and Atlantic, then ESCI and Revell.
Airfix peasants from Robin Hood set, painted then (left, Humbrol paints) and a few years ago (right, acrylic paints).
Nowadays, after several years of Golden Age for the one true scale addicts, I have built up several 1/72 historical armies for DBA: Gauls, Republican Rome, Carthaginians, Early Germans, Imperial Rome, Late Imperial Rome, Achaemenid Persians, Late Crusaders and Aztecs. But many more are being prepared (too many I guess)
I should soon have the opportunity to play a few games with another ruleset, l'Art de la Guerre. The basing system is very close to DBA, except that you need to double the number of figures to represent Middle and Heavy Infantry, some more men on the workbench.
More recently, I have been painting some 28mm Fantasy figures (metal and plastic) to play wargames or skirmishes with my children, using systems such as Confrontation, Warhammer and Kings of War.
From time to time, I also try to paint minis for the boardgames of the house, mainly Mansions of Madness and Empire Assault.
Last but not least, the recent growth in 1/72 Fantasy sets gives us the opportunity to use small plastic soldiers for large Fantasy games - all the more if you also use historical figures to represent Fantasy armies, such as this Empire army based on 16th century soldiers.
Thanks for reading so far. I'm happy to join this community, to discover many wonderful minis, to find some help to improve my painting, and to display my projects from times to times.
Phil.
