Lovely work Philotep - I'm still having a hard time believing these are 20mm bendy plastic figures! Did you freehand the shields, or are the details moulded on?

Absolutely love the figures, arrangements, and basing. Well beyond what I could manage at that scale. Gorgeous work.

It just shows what you can do with 1/72 figures - great looking army  :)
I really like the hand painted shields too.

1/72 plastic really has come on a long way since Airfix!

Yes, 1/72 has come a long way.  Although, I'm afraid it has mostly become a dead scale thanks to Russia's war since most of the current manufacturers were Ukrainian.   :(

Didn’t know that - and that is a pity. The one Ukrainian seller (Cadwallon), I’m aware of has somehow managed to continue production.

Fabulous work, loving your project. A fantastic way to get into wargaming cheaply. 20mm - 1/72 is such a underused scale for wargaming outside of Europe for this period with so much available in plastic and metal.

Cheers

Goof evening everyone, and a late thank you for your comments. Yesterday I took some time to finish the bases of the other elements of my DBA army, here you are the result:

and some close-ups:
1. Legionaries

2. Auxilia on foot

3. Auxilia on horse

4. Last, some artillery (a scorpio):

Hope you like them  :)
More pictures and comments here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2023/07/dba-early-imperial-roman-army-complete.html

This army is ready for DBA, but it still has to be extended for l'Art de la Guerre: I need twice as many legionaries and foot auxilia, at least. This army also needs opponents, such as an Early Germanic army. The figures are painted already, I just need to finish the base to shox them here. So some updates to come on this thread.

That is a good looking DBA army, the 1:72 figure turned out very well. I’m looking forward to seeing the expanded collection when it is ready, and the opponent army.

Thank you very much for your comment. The Early Germans are on their way, first step of basing complete.

Thanks Hobgoblin!

Here's the first picture of the Early German army to come, work in progress at the step of the bases.

Coming along very nicely.
It is good to have a matched pair of DBA armies.
You can play a game even if your opponent doesn't have any troops,
and the game will have historical opponents.

Thank you Has.been.
That's quite true, I believe it is never easy to find an opponent for a wargame, it is all the more difficult to find one in 1/72  :(
I would not be surprised to read that most 1/72 wargamers are solo players  ;)

Very nice work! I have the advantage of having had both of my sons adopt 1/72 scale, and they live within reasonable driving distance, so we can usually get a family game going.  However, I don’t believe we have ever had anyone outside the family bring troops to a game …
