Battletech Table and Forces
« on: 22 January 2023, 08:37:50 PM »
Gearing up for a game of either Fistful of Mecha or Alpha Strike with my son, and have some fun new buildings to fight over (fueling station, dropship, and some alpha strike buildings).

She does the job, even if not the most glorious dropship build:

Road into town:

Some hex based tree tiles (thought that was apropos given the old hex maps):

Downtown:

I have to say, I do like having the cars.  They help immensely with sense of scale/ambiance.

I think it's a great table, and I rather like the dropship too - well done!  :D

That looks just great!  8)

And I agree: the dropship is cool; not often you get to see a full sized one on a table after all :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks all.  My son seems to be enjoying playing it so far, so we'll see how it goes this round.

Nice work, I did something similar back when I was using Elbowtech, lol.

I think Battletech, of all the old school IP's is in dire need of a modernization refresh.  I know some people like the ancient clunkiness of it, but it's such a cool IP and they finally have decent minis (both the new production plastics and the availability of 3D printed minis).

Nice table!  And agree that tree hexes are suitably thematic.

A wonderful table.  The cars add scale as well as potential targets.  lol

I'm nearing the end on forces:

Eridani Light Horse Lance:

Hansen's Roughriders Company (my personal favorite merc unit):

21st Centauri Lancers (2 Lances, debating on a third):

House Liao Company plus infantry:

House Davion Company plus jump infantry:

House Kurita Company (missing the Thunderfox that is still on the printer):

Start of House Steiner:

Neutral Artillery and APCs (for mission scenarios):

Neutral Transport VTOL (for scenarios):

At some point I'll put up photos from my personal merc company, the Black Sheep Squadron.  I've got a Battalion worth of mechs for them.

Very nice! Do I take it that all the models on the acrylic/slim bases are 3D printed then?

Some are, some are not.  It depends on how far back some of them go.

I've been working on some roads and city tiles (I'll have to post the roads later).

They work out really well.  Made from cork tiles and thin craft foam that is painted/weathered to mimic concrete and asphault.  The cork is given a liberal application of Mod Podge on the backside to help with integrity.  Not sure how long they'll hold up, but they look good for now.

Close up of the roads, one of our players kept knocking them around.  Maybe have to think of something non slip for the back.

Then a shot of the whole table with the roads and city tiles.  I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.  Playing a company on company though, think we'll have to change it to moving a whole lance at a time.

That table looks great! I had a similar issue with migrating roads in a recent game. We put a small piece of double sided tape under each piece and it did the job. The tape will lift flock off a textured board, though, so it’s worth being a bit careful. Should be fine on most mats, though.
